AMOS, Jean Grubb, 73, of Madeira, Ohio, formerly of Roanoke, Va., passed away Saturday, May 11, 1996. She is survived by two sisters, Nancy Hodges of Goodview, Va., and Phyllis Perkins of Roanoke.

BARBOUR, Paul Lewis, (``Butch""), 46, of Roanoke, died Friday, May 10, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. He is survived by two sons, Tony Barbour and Charles Barbour, both of Roanoke; his mother, Katherine Upton Barbour of Catawba, and three brothers, Robert Barbour, William Barbour and Carl V. Barbour Jr., all of Roanoke. Graveside service will be held at noon Monday, May 13, 1996, in Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. Frank Feather officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Lotz Salem Chapel.

BROWN, Lawrence Reed, 67, of Vinton, passed away unexpectedly Tue sday, May 7, 1996, at his home. He was recently retired, and was employed part time at Net Working Solutions. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served with the First Ranger Battalion Airborne Division. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Vinton Ward. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Watkins Brown; two sons, Lawrence Reed Brown, Jr. and wife, Helen, Salt Lake City, Utah, Kristian Reed Brown, U.S. Navy, serving in the Persian Gulf; brother and sister-in-law, Jack Curtis and Patricia Brown, Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Rosemary Brown Hall, Butte, Mont., Gladys Babcock, Annabella, Utah, Sannee B. Palmer, Santa Monica, Calif.; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Vinton Ward, at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 1996, with Bishop Roy F. Greenland officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

FARMER, Robert Gary, 50, of Rt. 2, Box 950, Dublin, died Friday, May 10, 1996 in the Bryan Center, Low Moor, Va. He was born in Virginia on August 4, 1945 and was the son of the late Clarence Thomas Farmer Sr. He was an employee of Volvo GM, Dublin, Va. Surviving are one daughter, Melisa Kelly Farmer, Dublin; one son, Michael Gary Farmer, Roanoke; mother, Mary C. Farmer, Fairlawn; one brother, C. Thomas Farmer Jr., Pulaski; one grandchild. FLICK, Vernon Miller, 78, of Shawsville, died Friday, May 10, 1996, in Radford Community Hospital. Born in Pulaski on November 8, 1917, he was the son of the late Creed F. Flick and Janie Mustard Flick. He was preceded in death by a b rother, Frank Gilmer Flick, and a daughter, Janie Irene Flick. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, a member of the Masons and Seneca Baptist Church in Elliston, and was retired as an electrical engineer with Tenneco. He is survived by his wife, Delma Horton Flick, and a brother, Douglas M. Flick of Shawsville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from Thomas M. Seagle and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Burial will follow in New Dublin Presbyterian Church Cemetery. FLOWERS, Bryna Haspiel, 51, of Roanoke, died Friday, Mayu 10, 1996 in a Richmond Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Vann G. Flowers; a daughter, Leslie Z. Flowers, Roanoke; her father, M.J. Haspiel, Wilminton, N.C.; mother, L.S. Haspiel, Wilmington, N.C.; a brother, Myles V. Haspiel, Pell, Iowa. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, 1996 with Rabbi Kathy Cohen officiating. Interment will be in Temple Emanuel Cemetery. HARKRADER, Robert, Jr., 73, of Parrott, died Friday, May 10, 1996 at his home. He was born in Ancon, Republic of Panama, on September 28, 1922, a son of Maria Petronila Saunders of Pennsylvania and the late Robert Harkrader, Sr. of Parrott. He attended Parrott United Methodist Church and received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army in 1945, where he served in the 864th Bombardment Squadron. He worked for Hercules, Inc. and the Ordnance Corps at the Radford Arsenal for 34 years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rovie Maxine Harkrader, Parrott; a daughter and son -in-law, Judith and Don Boitnott, Atlanta, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Ellen Harkrader, Christiansburg, Calvin and Sylvia Harkrader, Parrott; a sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Hedge of Dublin; five grandchildren, Joe, Don Wayne, Chap, Jolene and Tonya; two great-grandchildren also survive. He was also preceded in death by his oldest son, James Robert Harkrader. Funeral services 11 a.m. Monday at the Parrott United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Will Shewey officiating. Burial will be in the Old Highland Cemetery, located on Highland Rd. in Pulaski Co. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Twin Community Fire Dept. HONTS, Robert Givens, 77, of 1405 Whitehorn St., Bluefield, W.Va., died Friday, May 10, 1996 in a Bluefield hospital. Born in Eagle Rock, Virginia, he was a son of the late George Edward Honts Sr. and Maude Brugh Honts. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Bluefield and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was the retired president of Robert G. Honts Claims Adjustment Bureau. He was a 50 year member of the Bluefield Mercer Lodge #85 AF & AM, Royal Arch Masons Chapter #20, Knights Templar Commandry #19, and the Beni Kedem Shrine, and was a past worthy patron in the Eastern Star. He was also a 50 year member of the Bluefield Lions Club and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Gay Millan Honts Foster, Maude Lucille Honts Fulton, Marian Ella Honts Wood, and Lilia Pauline Honts Houser Koiner and three brothers, Anderson Brugh Honts, George Edward Honts Jr., Ernest Lynwood Honts. Survivors include his wife, Nora Vee Thacker Honts, Bluefield, W.Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Honts McGhee and Judge John R. McGhee, Bluefield, W.Va.; sisters, Caroline Virginia Honts Etzler, Fincastle, Va., Eloise Elizabeth Honts Powell, Farmville, Va.; brother, Milton Paul Honts, Beckley, W.Va.; granddaughter, Juliana Goulet, Marlboro, Ma.; great-grandchildren, Robert Allen Goulet, Marlboro, Ma. and Jacob Dylan Goulet, Marlboro, Ma. HOTINGER, James Calvin, (``Jim""), 57, of Lexington, (Collierstown), died Friday, May 10, 1996 at his home, Cave Hill Farm. He was born at Collierstown, April 12, 1939 and was a graduate from Effinger High School and was an active 4H'er and 4H All Star. Jim was a 1961 graduate of Lynchburg College and served in the Peace Corps in the Phillipines. After a career in Medical Malpractice Insurance in Santa Monica, Calif., he returned to Collierstown to farm five years ago. He was an active member, Elder, Director of Christian Education, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Teacher and Organist at Collierstown Presbyterian Church and was an Elder-Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). He was Ruritan Natural Bridge District Governor and member and past president of Effinger Ruritan Club, a Farm Bureau member, Rockbridge County Planning Commission member and Augusta Cattleman's Association President. He was preceded in death by his Father, Kenton Montgomery Hotinger. He is survived by is mother, Agnes Leech Hotinger, Lexington; close extended family; special friend and devoted assistant, Larry Reid. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 13, 1996 from the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Brad Langdon and the Rev. Barton Hellmuth officiating. JOHNSON, Earl, 81, of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 9, 1996. He is survived by six daughters, Elizabeth Thomas, Ruth Johnson, Ella Mae Megginson and Dorothy Kamanda of Pittsburgh, Pa., Delores Massey of Tennessee and Kimberly Johnson of Roanoke; two sons, Victor Lamar of Pittsburgh and Marshall Johnson of Tennessee; three sisters, Bessie Flowers and Mabel Johnson of Roanoke and Annie Belle Johnson of Salem; one brother, Sedrick Johnson of Vinton, and a host of n ieces and nephews. PILSON, Edward Valentine, 79, of Route 4, Stuart, died Saturday, May 11, 1996, at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born in a log cabin in the Buffalo Ridge section of Patrick County on July 21, 1916, to the late Dallas Valentine Pilson and the late Alpha Morrison Pilson. He graduated from the Blue Ridge Mission School in Buffalo Ridge. Before retiring, he was a businessman in the lumbering and fruit growing industry. He served as a member of the Patrick County Board of Supervisors for 16 years, and was chairman of that group for four years. He was a charter member of the Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent for 47 years. He also served on the board of the Virginia Farm Bureau and was a member of the Gideon Society. Surviving are his wife, Katherine Dawson Pilson of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Walvius of Woodbridge; three sons, Edward Pilson Jr., Ronnie Pilson and Richard Pilson of Stuart; two sisters, Clara Smart of Stuart and Wilma Foley of Amelia; four brothers, Roy, Ralph and Alfred Pilson of Stuart and Eugene Pilson of Danville; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Todd. Burial will be in the church cemetery. PRESTON, Taylor Lee, 88, of Rt. 7, Rocky Mount, died Thursday, May 9, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie Johnson Preston, of the home; and other relatives and friends. SCOTT, Joseph D., 63, of Plain City, Ohio, and formerly of Patrick County, died Thursday, May 9, 1996, in Ohio. Mr. Scott was born in Meadows of Dan to the late Ellis Judson and Lillie Maude Wood Scott. Mr. Scott was a veteran of the U.S. Army a nd a member of the American Legion. Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Sandy Thompson Scott of Plain City, Ohio; five children, Brenda (Larry) Boer of Louisville, Ky., Betty Jo (Mike) Gordon of Dublin, Ohio, Michele Scott of Hilliard, Ohio, Scott (Shelly) Spires of Plain City, Ohio, Leanne (Andy) Weeks of Plain City, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Hugh Scott of Greenville, Ohio; one sister, Helen (Paul) Shelor of Dublin. WOOD, June, 73, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, May 10, 1996. She attended Belmont Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Robert Earl Wood. Surviving are her daughter, Connie W. Sutphin, Catlett, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Earl Jr. and Frances Ellen Wood, Salem; grandchildren, Linda Dodson, Donna Sutphin, Coral D. Wood; great-grandson, Kenneth Earl Dodson; sisters, Ruth Brewer, Roanoke, Eva Glidewell, Richmond, Lorraine Nun ley, Eagle Rock.
