Wearable art exhibit in Pulaski

PULASKI - An exhibit of wearable art is being featured at the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley this month.

A reception for the local artist, Martha Ireson Preston, is set for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

at the center in downtown Pulaski. Preston uses buttons, bows, thread and fabrics to create works of art that can be worn.

The center also has a "Cat Tales" performance by story-teller Cat White starting at 11 a.m. May 25. Admission is $1.

The town of Pulaski will join with the center in presenting a Summer Concert Series in Jackson Park at 6 p.m. every other Friday, starting June 7.

The center's annual Attic, Basement and Closet fund-raising sale will also be scheduled in June.

Items donated for the sale can be brought to the center, and arrangements can be made to pick up large items

Teacher technology workshops at RU

RADFORD - Radford University's Reaching Resource Center will offer technology workshops for pre-service and K-12 educators in July.

The workshops will focus on classroom applications of skills identified in the new Technology Standards of Learning and will cover instructional techniques using laserdisc and CD-ROM technology, basic classroom applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphics; telecommunications including the Internet, World Wide Web and HTML; Va. Pen; classroom applications of multimedia; classroom presentation skills and software, computer and network troubleshooting.

Workshops will be at the Teaching Resource Center in Walker Hall and in other multimedia labs on the RU campus.

Fees will include instruction, manuals, refreshments, and in some cases, software and lunch. Instruction will be provided for both Macintosh and PC platforms.

In addition, the Virginia Geographic Alliance and the National Geographic Society will sponsor the "Geography for Life" workshop for pre-service and K-12 teachers June 23-29.

This workshop also will be at the Teaching Resource Center.
