Izaak Walton fishing rodeo

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Izaak Walton League will have a fishing rodeo for kids Sunday at the camp on Den Hill Road in Montgomery County. Children, ages 4-12, may fish from 2 to 4 p.m.

Registration will be held at the clubhouse before the event begins.

In addition to prizes, the Izaak Walton League also will provide free food and drinks for children.

Christiansburg beautification

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Christiansburg Visual Enhancement Committee will place geraniums, dusty miller and alyssum in the planters on Main Street on Saturday. Meet the group at Main and Franklin streets in downtown Christiansburg at 8:30 a.m. if you would like to help with the project. Call Kathy Mantz at 382-4251 or Alice Meyer at 382-4496.

Blacksburg AAUW book sale planned

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Area Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold its annual book sale May 30 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 112 Country Club Drive (former site of United Cities Gas Co.) in Blacksburg.

Book donations will be accepted on May 18 and May 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the same location.

Collection boxes are located at the Blacksburg Krogers, Harris Teeter and the Wades store at North Main street.

Proceeds go to the AAUW Educational Foundation local and national awards and scholarships.

Library offers Internet training

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library will offer World Wide Web training beginning May 22 at the Headquarters Library in Christiansburg, Jessie Peterman Memorial Library in Floyd and the Blacksburg Area Branch Library. The class schedule:

Headquarters

May 22, 23, 24 8-10 a.m.

May 29 8-10 a.m. and noon-2 p.m.

May 26 and June 2, noon-2 p.m.

Peterman branch

May 22 and 29, 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

May 26 and June 2, 8-10 a.m.

Blacksburg branch

May 24 and 31, 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Awesome Arts Festival Saturday

PEMBROKE - The Awesome Arts Festival will be held at Eastern Elementary and Middle School on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The festival includes music, jugglers, food, a silent auction, crafts and activities for kids, a food court and classes.

Storytellers include Cat White, Sheri Vaughn, Anne Wheeler and Otter Woman. Artist Linda Bostic-Smith will sketch portraits. The event is sponsored by the PTA's Creative Connections committee.
