ALBERT, James Edwin, 80, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 1996. He was a member of Carter Street United Methodist Church and a retired crane operator for Lynchburg Foundry. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Tolley Albert of Radford; and two half brothers, Lewis Albert of Radford and William Albert of Salem. The funeral ceremony will be held Thursday, May 16, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Julian Smith officiating. BURTON, Johnnie Wayne, 57, of Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 1996. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

CHELF, Helen Bowman, 63, of Norfolk, died Monday, May 8, 1996, in DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk. She was a Roanoke native and lived in the area until 1956 and returned may times for visits. She is survived by her husband, Winston Chelf; daughter, Cynthia Hodges of Fresno, Calif.; son Winston P. Chelf of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter, Christine Gallett of Newport News; five granddaughters; and one grandson. She donated her body to the Anatomical Division of the Virginia Department o f Health. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 1996, by the Rev. Steven Cronn in Third Presbyterian Church, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that individuals donate to their favorite charity

COLEMAN, James Jr., 72, of Salem died in the early morning hours on Tuesday, May 14, 1996 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born to the son of James and Eliza B. Coleman in Prestonsburg, Kentucky on June 18, 1923. He was throughout his life a man of powerful and generous spirit. A man of God and a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his only son, Jerry R. Coleman; and three of his brothers, Frank, Charles and Lloyd Coleman. He was at one time a Coal Miner in West Virginia and went on to work and retire from Eaton Corporation in Salem, Va. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eunice Downs Coleman; a daughter, Meryleen Coleman Tickle; son-a-law, Noah Miller Tickle Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Robin D. Coleman; granddaughter, Melissa B. Tickle; grandsons and their wives, Shawn L. and Dana Tickle, James M. and Chastity D. Coleman; great-grandson, Anthony J. Coleman; a great-granddaughter, Sylvia Erin Tickle; a brother, Jake Coleman; and two sisters, Maggie C. Woolford, and Maldie Coleman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. in the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem with the Rev. Samuel J. Huntley Kendall and Pastor Burrell Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.

GAITHER, Laura Anne, 92, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, May 13, 1996. Survivors include her husband, Robert Gaither; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elbert (Nellie) Gaither, William (Mabel) Gaither, Junius (Lenora) Gaither, all of Roanoke, Ethel Littlejohn, Spartanburg, S.C. HARE, Kathryn Terrell, 76, of Selma, Ala., died Sunday, May 12, 1996. Mrs. Hare was born April 28, 1920, in Waco, Texas, daughter of William Ervin Terrell and Margaret Kathryn Nowlin Terrell. She attended Baylor University, Radcliffe and graduated from the University of Texas. She taught in the Selma public school system for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Judge James Albert Hare Jr., and a son William Terrell Hare. She is survived by a son, James Albert Hare III of Sallisaw, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. John N. (Susan) Yauger of Roanoke, Va., and Virginia Terrell Hare of Birmingham, Ala.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Steven James (Sarah Katherine Yauger) Bagshaw of London, England, Douglas Lee Newsom Yauger of Roanoke, Va., Alexis Sage Terrell Hare of Birmingham, Ala., and Rebecca Hare of Burlingame, Calif.; one niece, Mrs. D. Patrick (Charlotte Wright) Burney of Greensboro, N.C., and one nephew, James Marshall Henry III of Chester, Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 1996, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Selma, with the Rev. John Bagby officiating. Interment will be in New Live Oak Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Pearce, Dean Wilson, Cartledge Blackwell, Park Keith, Ralph Hobbs and Dr. Mike Soppet. NICHOLS, Edward Simon, (``Chalk''), 60, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, May 13, 1996. Nichols, Robert L. Cole, both of Roanoke, Rebecca M. Cole, Columbus, Ohio, Joyce Cole Harding, Atlanta, Ga., William J., Samuel and Zola M. Nichols, Susan Smith, and Corrin e Saunders, all of Roanoke; grand nieces and nephews; and great-grand nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. PARKER, Mildred Waldron, 60, of Elliston, passed away Monday, May 13, 1996, at her home. She was born in Salem on April 7, 1936, the daughter of Sarah Ann Waldron Lipscomb, who resides in Salem, and the late Malvin Thomas Waldron. She attended Fort Lewis High School. She was a member of the Seneca Baptist Church and volunteered her time to the Boy Scouts of America and the National 4-H. She and her husband had previously resided in Farmington, N.M., Durango, Colo., and Plymouth, Wash. prior to moving to Elliston. A devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her husband, Marvin D. Parker; three sons and their families, Gary D. and Lesley W. Parker and their sons, Lloyd and Garrett, Tony L. and Rosemary Parker and their two daughters, Brandy and Misty; Gregg M. and Julie C. Parker and their daughter, Allison Marie; three brothers, Delmus T. Waldron, Gene A. Waldron, and Hampton O. Waldron; two sisters, Doris Ann Dowdy, Nancy Carolyn Fink, all who reside in Roanoke County. Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Friday, May 17, at the graveside in Sunset Cemetery conducted by Rev. V. N. McHone. The family requests family and friends come by the home on Brake Road after the services for fellowship. STACEY, Marine Cpl. Britt Todd, 26, of Vinton, stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., was killed in a war exercise mission on Friday, May 10, 1996. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Jr. and Michael; grandparents, William and Mattie Stacey, Roanoke, and David R. Williams, Richlands. Surviving are his wife, Angela Meador Stacey, Camp Lejeune, N.C., formerly of Blue Ridge; parents, Lee and Marie Stacey, Vinton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffry A. and Somona (Smith) Stacey, Vinton, Daniel W. and Michelle Desandis Stacey, Everett, Mass.; nieces, Brittny (very special), Rocky Mount, Areil, Martinsville; nephews, Dustin and Sheldon, Vinton; grandmother, Lillian Williams, Richmond; aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to mention; a dear and very special friend of the family, Mrs. Susan Mitchell and husband Andy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Geraldine Meador, Blue Ridge; brother-in-law, Eddie Meador, Blue Ridge; grandparents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William C. STARKEY, Earl R., 80, of Roanoke, died Monday, May 13, 1996. He was retired from John W. Hancock Jr. Inc. and was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren. Surviving is his wife, Gladys T. Starkey; sons and daughters-in-law, Duward and Helen Starkey, Roanoke, Gilbert and Bobbie Starkey, Boston, Mass.; daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Clinton Wade, Moneta, Beverly and Kenneth Craft, Roanoke; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Stark ey, Bridgewater. STULTZ, Louise S., 90, of Village Nursing Center, Fork Union, and formerly of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 14,1996. She is survived by four daughters, Katherine S. Bostian and husband, Robert, Doris S. Young and husband, Lewis, both of Roanoke, Barbara S. Ryan, White, Ga. and Dorothy S. Hudgins and husband, Donald, Arvonia; two sons, Harold L. Stultz and wife, Janice and E. Maurice (Mo) Stultz, both of Roanoke; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene S. Stultz. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Dunkum Funeral HOme, Dillwyn, with interment in Fairview Cemetery, Roanoke, at 3 p.m . TUCKER, Dorothy D., 82, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Leonard Tucker Sr.; and a daughter, Jean T. McCormack. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Wilbur L. (Dick) Jr. and Ruth F. Tucker, James L. and Nancy Tucker; daughter and son-in-law, Judy T. and Steve Palmer; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ira V. Draughn. WALKER, Paul Addison, Sr., 96, of Newport, VA died peacefully at home Monday morning, May 13, 1996. Born in Newport on May 15, 1900, he was a son of the late John William and Addie Sue Keffer Walker. Paul was a member of the Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Newport Ruritan Club and was retired from the RAAP Hercules Powder Co. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Mildred Zell Walker, who he married on March 13, 1926; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul A. Walker Jr. and Carole H. Walker of St. Petersburg, Va.; grandchildren, John A. and wife, Molly T. Walker of Wilmington, Del.; David H Walker of Newport; and Ann E. Walker of Laurel, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, and Micha Walker of Wilmington, Del. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 16, 1996, in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke with the Rev. Jeanie Finley officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church or the Newport Rescue Squad.
