IN SCHOOL

LOUISE TEMPLE FORSYTH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Logan Forsyth of Roanoke, has been inducted into the Cum Laude Society, the national scholastic honor society that recognizes the superior scholarship of students in secondary schools, at Episcopal High School in Alexandria.

Forsyth is a senior and has also been awarded the school prize for excellence in social studies and the Whittle Academic Prize.

ROANOKE CITY SCHOOLS has announced the names of the teams and individuals that won awards during the National Junior Chess Championships held in Orlando, Fla.

In team competition the winners are:

James Madison Middle School, K-8 section, 23rd place; Mark DiProsperis, 1,200-1,299 category - K-8 section, fourth place.

Junior varsity section (K-8 with ratings under 1,100) winners are:

Phillip Marlles - Raleigh Court Elementary - 900-999 category, first place; Tom Raney - Fishburn Park WEB Elementary Magnet School, fifth place.

JONATHAN M. HOLLAND has received the Servistar All-American Vocational Student Award. Holland, a senior at Arnold R. Burton Technology Center, plans to pursue his schooling in Nashville.
