BEASLEY, Patricia Jeanette, (``Pat''), of Route 3, Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Carroll County. COLEMAN, James Jr., 72, of Salem died in the early morning hours on Tuesday, May 14, 1996 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born the son of James and Eliza B. Coleman in Prestonsburg, Kentucky on June 18, 1923. He was throughout his life a man of powerful and generous spirit. A man of God and a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his only son, Jerry R. Coleman; and three of his brothers, Frank, Charles and Lloyd Coleman. He was at one time a Coal Miner in West Virginia and went on to work and retire from Eaton Corporation in Salem, Va. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eunice Downs Coleman; a daughter, Meryleen Coleman Tickle; son-in-law, Noah Miller Tickle Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Robin D. Coleman; granddaughter, Melissa B. Tickle; grandsons and their wives, Shawn L. and Dana Tickle, James M. and Chastity D. Coleman; great-grandson, Anthony J. Coleman; a great-granddaughter, Sylvia Erin Tickle; two foster sons, Labor Persinger, Silver Persinger; a brother, Jake Coleman; and two sisters, Maggie C. Wolford, and Maldie Coleman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. in the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem with the Rev. Samuel J. Huntley and Pastor Burrell Wright officiating. FLINT, Joseph Ronald, 67, of Buena Vista, died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, in a Salem hospital. He was born in Rockbridge County April 8, 1929, son of the late Joseph R. Flint and Susie Gearhart Flint. He was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren. Mr. Flint was retired from Burlington Industries. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Leon Flint. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Saunders Flint; a son and daughter-in-law, Garry S. and Shirley C. Flint of Cumberland; a daughter, Mar Vita Flint of Buena Vista; three grandsons, Garry Stephen Flint II of Salem, Joseph Dale Ingram and Dean Saunders Ingram, both of Buena Vista; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Dayln Flint of Salem; three brothers, Robert C. Flint of Glasgow, Talmage E. Flint of Amherst, and Jerry M. Flint of Keeling. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Stone Church of the Brethren, Buena Vista, with the Rev. HALE, Irvin T., (``I. T.""), 91, of Vinton, died Wednesday, May 15, 1996, in a local hospital. He was retired from the Rainbo Bread Company, and was a member of Mountain Dale Lodge #49 I.O.O.F. and the UCT. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Pauline Turner Hale; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelby and Norris Parker of Moneta; granddaughters, Pam Council and Jennifer Parker of Roanoke; sisters, Mrs. Annie Thompson, Mrs. Glada and husband Doris Bowers of Floyd, and Mrs. Ilene Clifton of Meadows of Dan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Warren and Pauline Hale of Floyd, Herbert and Bea Hale of Salem, Bill and Etoil Hale of Dayton, Ohio, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 1996, with the Rev. William E. Hungate and the Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. HENDRICK, William Thurston, 74, of South Boston, died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, at Duke Medical Center. Born July 31, 1921, in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of a late Thurston Woody Hendrick and Ruth Tosh Hendrick. Mr. Hendrick retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp. and was a United States Army officer who served during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Swisher Hendrick; children and their spouses, Patricia H. and Thomas A. Rodgers Sr., Halifax, William A. and Laura Hendrick, Marietta, Ga., Thomas T. and Blanca Hendrick, Bethesda, Md.; six grandchildren, Ruth Ann Rodgers, Greensboro, N.C., Thomas A. Rodgers Jr., South Boston, Rebecca F. Rodgers, Hull, England, Jordan J. Hendrick, Stuart T. Hendrick both of Marietta, Ga., William Edison Hendrick, Bethesda, Md.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and Bob Francis, Barbara and C. J. HUNTER, Thomas C. III, 60, of Roanoke, lost his battle to cancer on Monday, May 13, 1996. He was a native Texan and attended Abilene Christian University and Texas Tech. Tom's life and death were a testimony to his faith and courage. After a time spent with the U.S. Post Office, Tom's career centered on insurance, real estate and investments. For the past 12 years, he functioned as Manager of Investment Leasing for Golden Corral Restaurants, Inc. Enjoying the challenge and variety of his work nationwide, he shared his contagious optimism and humor with all he met. Tom is survived by his wife, Martha Shewmaker Hunter of Roanoke; mother Mary H. Hunter of Fort Worth, Texas; three sons, Jeff, Jim and Jon; two daughters-in-law, Tammy and Stella; and two grandchildren, Andy and Ryan. All three sons and their families currently reside in Texas. Tom valued relationships with a host of family and friends. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at Oakey's South Chapel. The funeral will be held at the Roanoke Church of Christ at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18. Christians in this fellowship have provided an extended family for Tom, Martha and their children for the last 25 years. JOHNSON, Betty M., 87, of Lexingto n, died Wednesday, May 15, 1996, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Extended Care Facility. Mrs. Johnson was born in Northampton County on October 2, 1908, to Erastus and Sally Wilson. She was a member of the Randolph Street United Methodist Church and was active in the Randolph Street Methodist Women. Before moving to Lexington, she was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Roanoke. She is survived by nieces and nephews whom she raised, Ms. Janie Tomlin, Mr. Frederick Douglas, Mr. Melvin Dodd Sr. and Ms. Hattie Douglas of Baltimore, Md., the Rev. Willie E. and Diane P. Butler of Lexington, and a host of grandchildren. Friends may call at the Butler residence, 113 Taylor Street, at any time, and at the Lewis Funeral Home from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held in Baltimore at the First Apostolic Church, with the Rev. Horace S. Smith Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the King Memorial Park, Inc. LaPRAD, Burnace D., 77, of Roanoke, pased aw ay Tuesday, May 14, 1996. He was a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church and retired from Nelson-Roanoke. Mr. LaPrad was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene LaPrad Kessler. Surviving are his wife, Rosa Doran LaPrad; sons and daughter-in-law, B. D. LaPrad Jr., Columbia, S.C., Steve and Beth LaPrad, Summerville, S.C.; grandchildren, Katie and Ben LaPrad, Columbia, S.C., Brian Kessler, Roanoke, Brent, Tyler and Lindsey LaPrad, Summerville, S.C.; stepgrandsons, Billy and Tim Kessler, Roanoke; son-in-law, Bill Kessler, Roanoke; brother, Lewis LaPrad, Troutville; sisters, Doris Davis, Warrenton, Va., Evelyn Hill, Petersburg; a number of nieces and nephews. LINEBERRY, Wilton Greek, 78, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, May 15, 1996 in a local nursing home. Mr. Lineberry was a veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post #3, and a member of Westhampton Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Hawley Lineberry; stepdaughter, Peggy Mehl, Roanoke; stepsons, Thomas L. Chewning, Vinton, Gerald B. Chewning, Newport News; brothers, Paul Lineberry, Akron, Ohio, Dallas Lineberry, Curtis Lineberry, Salem; sisters, Lollie Warden, Draper, Beulah Griffin, Alice Pace, both of Salem. NORTH, Jane Dillard, 78, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, May 15, 1996, at her home. She was born in Berryville on July 29, 1917, daughter of the late LaTrobe B. and Audrey Robey Dillard. She was retired from Southern Seminary Junior College, and was the widow of Thomas W. North. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Michele N. and Larry Swann of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Jenna and Jas on Swann of Christiansburg; three sisters, Charlotte R. Dillard and Doris D. Robinson, both of Buena Vista, and Martha Ann Schneider of Virginia Beach. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 1996, at the Christ Episcopal Church by the Rev. Al Whitelock. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Lomax Funeral Home.

PARKER, Mildred Waldron, 60, of Elliston passed away Monday, May 13, 1996, at her home. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at the graveside in Sunset Cemetery conducted by the Rev. REED, Russel M., 64, of Buchanan, departed this life for heaven on Tuesday, May 14, 1996. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Reed; sons, Daryl Reed, Doug Reed, and Darren Reed; daughters, Cathy Dickerson and Karen Thrasher; his children-in-law, Charlene, J ay, Dawn, Marisa; grandchildren, Daniel, Jason, Brooke, David, Tyree, Josh, Megan, Brittany and Alex; a special friend, Warren Plaster. Also surviving include his mother, Elva Reed; brother, Orin Reed; sisters, Eunice Kelly, Margaret Campbell and Bernice Haymaker. REYNOLDS, Fannie Agee Cruise, 89, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, at Camelot Hall Nursing Home, Salem. She was born on August 20, 1906, to the late Eden and Annie Cock Agee of Meadows of Dan. She was preceded in death by her husbands, T. Vere Cruise in 1942 and Frank L. Reynolds in 1964. Mrs. Reynolds was an active member of the Presbyterian Church since 1927, and was a member of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church at the time of her death. She attended Radford College, now Radford University, and taught in the Patrick County School System for a number of years and retired as a lab technician from Virginia Tech. An active member of the Eastern Star since 1937, she was a Charter member of Stuart Chapter #25 and served as Sunshine person for AARP and Chaplain of the American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are four sisters and brothers-in-law, Claudia Wood, Camelot Hall, Salem, Judie and Carl Johenning, Highland Springs, Rosetta and Russell Wheeler, Narrows, and Annie E. Gardner, Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, 1996, 1 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. D. Camron Murchison Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Church and Eakin Streets, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or a charity of your choice. SCHOWE, Benjamin Marshall Jr., 75, of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 12, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Billie Winn Schowe. He attended South Roanoke United Methodist Church. Born August 6, 1920, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of Benjamin M. Schowe and Dorothy C. Schowe. He was educated at Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C., where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He received his Master and Doctorate Degrees from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He began his teaching career at the Virginia School for the Deaf in Staunton. He was a teacher-librarian for many years at the Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus. He was Chairman of the Language Department at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C., and an archivist at Gallaudet University. Dr. Schowe was active in his service to the deaf and hearing impaired community. He served on the Advisory Board for the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, as well as the Quality Assurance Service for interpreters of sign language. He taught sign language classes at Virginia Western Community College and the Roanoke Department of Parks and Recreation. He was active in the Piedmont Chapter of the Virginia Association of the Deaf and the Roanoke HANDS group. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Narodny, her husband, Ivan; and his granddaughters, Mariya and Sonya of Bedford; and his son, Ben F. Schowe, his wife, Jean; and his granddaughter Mary, and grandson, Benjamin, of Forest. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Knight Schowe. A memorial service will be held at a later date. SLOUGH, Elton Mae Cash, 65, of Buena Vista, died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, at Bath County Community Hospital. She was born October 13, 1930, in Buena Vista, daughter of the late Charles S. Cash and Ethel Campbell Cash. Surviving are two sons, Eddie Slough of Stuarts Draft and Lonnie Dean Slough of Buena Vista; a daughter, Marlene Hardin of Natural Bridge; two sisters, Margaret Slusser of Staunton and Kathleen Davis of Lexington; three grandchildren. Wood; two sisters, June Wood and Cassie Kinsey; four brothers, Ezra Wood, Harry Wood, Charlie Wood, and Roy Wood; and his first wife, Eva M. Wood. Surviving are his wife, Geneva R.
