COUNTS, Leslie Charles, 68, of Route 6, Bedford, died Friday, May 17, 1996, in a Lynchburg hospital. He was born December 1, 1927 in Dickinson County. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, a graduate of Lynchburg College, was employed as a Quality Control Inspector for the U.S. Navy, and was retired from the Internal Revenue Service. He is survived by his wife, Sally Knight Counts; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Andrew Counts and Debra Clark Counts of Bedford; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Counts Averett and Lewis Hobgood Averett of Lynchburg; four brothers, William Counts of Detroit, Mich., Robert Counts of Radford, Kyle Counts of Hiwassee, and Jim Counts of Virginia Beach; also two stepgrandchildren, Lynn Averett Meredith and Timothy Young Averett; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Amanda Michele Shober, Joshua Everett Shober, and Kayla Victoria Averett; also many nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held in Virginia Memorial Park with the Rev. James A. Creasy and the Rev. John Kearfott Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends at noon Monday, May 20, 1996, in the Parish Hall at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Bedford, and other times at the home. DILLON, William Mumford, 72, of Galax, died Thursday, May 16, 1996, at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mr. Dillon was born in Carroll County on January 15, 1924, to Robert Smith Dillon and Flora Nettie Newman Dillon. He is survived by his wife, Lena Rose Dillon, Galax; two sons and daughter-in-law, Bill G. Di llon, Hillsville, Ronnie and Ruthie Dillon, Woodlawn; a brother, Howard Dillon, Galax; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Dillon, Galax; three grandchildren, Randy Dillon and Susan Blankenship, Hillsville, Ginger Dillon, Woodlawn; four great-grandchildren, Rossie Dillon, Jacob Dillon, Kasey Blankenship, Joshua Blankenship. FERGUSON, Henry William, Jr., 67, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, May 16, 199 6. He was a retired employee of the Fulton Motor Company. Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his parents, Henry William Ferguson Sr. and Bertha King Ferguson. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Vernia Ferguson, of Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Georgia Ferguson, Roanoke; three daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Billy Thomas, Roanoke, Carolyn and Mark Caldwell, Tammy and Ronald Nichols, all of Moneta; eight grandchildren, Melissa Stiltner, Carl Perdue, Chris Perdue, Jennifer Ferguson, Katherine Lockhart, Mark Caldwell Jr., Adam Caldwell and Allyson Nichols; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred, Ronald and Larry Ferguson; four sisters, Mildred Gish, Betty Ann Rakes, Shirley Gillespie and Judy Jones; step-mother, Louise Bohn. HOGAN, LaVaille Cox, 90, of Newport News, died Friday, May 17, 1996. She was the widow of Robert Harvey Hogan. Born in 1905 in Danville, she was a graduate of Shenandoah Hospital School of Nursing in Roanoke. She is survived by her daughter, LaVaille ``Bobbe Gray'' H. Jebson and son-in-law, Thomas W. KETRON, Lt. Col. Ret. William Gilmer, 77, of Edgefield, S.C., died Thursday, May 16, 1996 in a Blacksburg, Va. hospital. A native of Lebanon, he retired from the U. S. Army with 30 years service. He served in WWII, Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Edgefield, S.C., a member of the American Legion Post #30, and a member of the Edgefield Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gwendelynn Long Ketron, Edgefield, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Marsha Lynn Henderson, Bruwton, Alabama; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Linda Reeve Smith, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Mrs. Leigh Anne Goddar, Bountiful, Utah; one son, William Gilmer Ketron, Jr., Greenwood, S.C.; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Ketron Richard, Pearisburg, Va.; one brother, Frank L. Ketron, Jr., Lebanon, Va.; four grandchildren; and one stepgranddaughter. Funeral services for Lt. Col. Ret. KYTCHEN, Sena B., 79, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, May 16, 1996, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born in Giles County on June 15, 1916, to the late Kemper and Willie Mae Cumbee. Surviving are a son-in-law, Donald Thompson, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, Jimmy H. McClung, Radford, and Michael B. McClung, West Palm Beach, Fla.; one great-grandson and spouse, Michael Boyd Kytchen Jr. and Diane, West Palm Beach , Fla.; and a special friend, Rudolph Robinson, Blacksburg. MILLS, Clayton, 81, of Callaway, passed away Friday, May 17, 1996 at his home. He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church. He was loving and caring father and grandfather and a devoted husband of 55 years. Mr. Mills retired from the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier after 29 years service in the Callaway Community. He was also a beef cattle farmer. Surviving are his wife, Victoria Helms Mills; one son and daughter-in-law, James L. (Jimmy) and Mary Price Mills; one grandson, Timmy Mills, all of Callaway; three stepgrandsons and four stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Lila Guilliams, Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Gary Milstead and the Rev. Dave Snead officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorials be made to Highland United Methodist Church or Hospice of Franklin County. PICKERING, Lewis, 82, of New London, Ohio, a former Roanoke resident, died Friday, May 17, 1996. He had lived in Roanoke for 23 years, moving to Ohio in 1994. He retired in 1977 from the Norfolk & Western Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Pauline; a son, Joel; three grandsons; and a brother, Clifford, of Roanoke. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at the New London Methodist Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Eastman Funeral Home, New London. SCHWEITZER, Dr. Leonard C., 83, of 901 Toms Creek Road, Blacksburg, died Thursday, May 16, 1996, at the Virginia Veterans Care Center, Salem. Born April 24, 1913, in Milwaukee, Wis., he was the son of the late Leonard Nicholas and Elsie Kuchler Schweitzer. Dr. Schweitzer and his late wife, Antoinette Santolla Schweitzer, moved to Blacksburg in 1975 from Glenview Ill. An attorney, an educator and a biblical scholar, Dr. Schweitzer received his MA from the University of Wisconsin and his PhB, LLB, JD. from Marquette University. He attended Lakeland College, Northwestern University, DePaul University, and the Mission House Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Wis. An English Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Schweitzer was also Principal of New Trier Township High school in Winnetka, Ill. His honors memberships included Sigma Tau Delta, Delta Sigma Rho, Theta Rho, Pi Delta Alpha and Gold Masque. Dr. Schweitzer was a member of the Blacksburg Baptist Church and a member of the Marchfield Lodge No. 224 A.F.and A.M., Scottish Rite, York Rite and the Tripoli Shrine Temple and order of the Eastern Star in Wisconsin. A retired Major from the U.S. Army, 320 Quartermaster Battalion, he was an attorney and investigator for the War Crimes Commission in Nuremberg, Germany, and was an Instructor in Military Law, A.U.S. Survivors are a sister, Dorothy Zozel of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; two nieces, Dr. Mary Zozel of Oconomowoc, Wis., Dorthea Ledin of Madison, Wis.; one nephew, Thomas Zozel of Hudson, Wis.; three br others-in-law, Angelo M. Santolla of Pearisburg, Gabriel D. Santolla of Albuquerque, N.M., William T. Santolla, Pearisburg; three sisters-in-law, Martha DeHart of Ripplemead, Rosaline Rowe of Blacksburg, Elizabeth Johnson of Pearisburg. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by Hunters Masonic Lodge No. 156 of Blacksburg at Birchlawn Cemetery, Pearisburg, Sunday, May 19, 1996, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to New River Valley Hospice. SNIDER, Herman Vastine, 86, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, May 15, 1996, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born June 21, 1909, in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Snider and Lydia Arehart Snider. Mr. Snider was a member of New Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, and was a retired shoe repairman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cales Snider. S urviving are two sisters, Mary Reese, Raphine, Lydia Margaret Topping, Fairfield; four brothers, Harry R. Snider, Fairfield, Robert R. Snider, Raphine, Arthur W. Snider, Raphine, Melvin A. Snider, Natural Bridge; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 18, 1996, at 11 a.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Heather L. Bumstead officiating. Burial will follow in Ludwick Cemetery.

WAGNER, Lorine Updyke, 86, of Bland, died Thursday, May 16, 1996. She was born February 6, 1910, the daughter of the late Albert Franklin and Bertha Mustard Updyke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Raleigh Wagner Sr.; her son, Frank Raleigh ``Buddy'' Wagner Jr.; and her brother, Albert Zeb Updyke. Mrs. Wagner, a graduate of Radford College, was a retired school teacher from the Bland County School System, where she taught for 30 years. Many of those years were served at her beloved one room school in the Little Creek section of the county. She was a past member of the Bland Order of the Eastern Star and a very active member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church, where she preserved the history of the church with photographs and scrapbooks, and for many years, was chairwoman of the church homecoming committee. Mrs. Wagner spent her retirement years continuing the tradition set forth by her ancestors who lived on Crystal Springs Farm by entertaining family and friends and hosting tours of the Updyke home where she was born and where she lived until her death. She spent many hours keeping the house and grounds of Crystal Springs Farm in superior condition. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-la w, Brenda and Elbert ``Butch'' King, Bland; one granddaughter, Sara Ellen King, Bland; three grandsons, Shannon Stuart King and wife, Rachel, United States Coast Guard, Chincoteague, Gregory Wayne Wagner and wife, Debbie, United States Army, Odenton, Md., and James Wesley Wagner, Roanoke; one great-grandson, Brian Gregory Wagner, Odenton, Md.; one sister, Marie Updyke Steele, Coeburn; two nieces, Gayle Updyke Girdler, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Louise Steele, Euclid, Ohio. Also surviving are her extended family members of the W. K. King family, and all her friends at the ``Bland Senior Citizens Center.'' Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church with the Rev. E. C. Redmond and Rev.. Frank Clifton officiating. Burial will be in the Mechanicsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the home of her daughter, Brenda King, at any time. WILLIAMS, Esther Lee, 63, of Roanoke passed away Thursday, May 16, 1996 at her home. She is retired from Kroger's at Hollins after 24 years of service. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry E. and Lisa Williams, Salem; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy W. and Steve Woodring, Peggy L. Smith, Ro anoke, JoAnn and Randy Thompson, Midlothian, Tina and William Creighton, Evansville, Ind.; brother, Butch Roop; sisters, Betty Ware, Shirley Argabright, Frances Colley, Ginger Rucker, Judy Khan; grandchildren, Kacie L. Sutor, Kim Woodring, Eric T. Hurt, Morgan Thompson, Taylor Thompson; and one great-grandchild, Logan Sutor. Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel of the John M.
