CALDWELL, Blanche Ann Welch, 56, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, May 17, 1996. Survivors include her husband, Clarence E. Caldwell, Sr. of Roanoke; three daughters, Natalie Caldwell, Roanoke, Sharon Caldwell, United States Navy, stationed in Japan, and Teresa Caldwell of Roanoke; three sons, Clarence E. Caldwell, Jr., Victor Caldwell, both of Roanoke, and David Caldwell of Norfolk; three sisters, Emily Compton, Long Beach, N.Y., Margaret Vineyard, Salem and Deborah Welch of Roanoke; six brothers, Roy Welch, Stanley Welch, Connie Welch and Steven Welch, all of Roanoke, Wilford Welch, Oxon Hill, Md. and Ronald Welch of Gala; mother-in-law, Dollie English of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Pleasant will officiate, with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
CANADA, Darlene Kalmbach, 64, of Ladysmith, British Columbia, formerly of Franklin County, Va., died Friday, May 17, 1996. Funeral services will be held in Canada.
CROWE, Lillian Shealor, 92, of Christiansburg, passed away Saturday, May 18, 1996 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was a member of Cambria Baptist Church and a retired employee of Leggett Department Store. Born March 26, 1904, she was the daughter of Alice Grant Shealor and William A. Shealor of Prices Fork. The family moved to Cambria when Lillian was a teenager and she lived there until 1987, when she moved into Bluff Apartments in Christiansburg. In August of 1995, she moved into English Meadow Retirement Home. On May 9, she fell, breaking her hip and was a patient at the hospital until her death. Lillian was preceded in death in 1959 by her husband, Elmer V. Crowe, and by all eight of her brothers and sisters over the years. She is survived by three nieces, Misses Georgia and Janie Elliott and Ms. Winifred Howell, all of Christiansburg; three nephews, Walton Elliott, Elmer Shealor, both of Christiansburg, and Bill Gerald of Radford; four great-nieces and one great-nephew. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 1996, at the Cambria Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. and the Rev. Robert E. Crawford, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

HOLLAND, Arietta M., of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 17,1996 at her home. She was a member of Cave Sprin g Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Holland, and a son, Garwood Holland. JOHNSON, Maefield Hare, 97, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, May 18, 1996. Born in Giles County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ella Motley Hare. She was the widow of Alexander (``Buck"") Johnson, and was predeceased by two daughters, Frances Kotz and Sandra Costello. She was a retired employee of Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley, and was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Roanoke. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold and Marlene Johnson of Salem, and John Leroy and Evie Johnson of Alexandria; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine and Walt Mullins of Narrows, and Marlene and Curtis Finch of Forest; a grandchild raised by Mrs. Johnson, Ronald Kotz of Vinton; nine other grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday from the First Freewill Baptist Church on Gus Nicks Boulevard by the Rev. Jeff Crabtree. MARSHALL, Howard E., of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Roanoke Va., died Wednesd ay, May 15, 1996, at his residence. Howard recently retired from McCormick and Company, Inc., where he served as Manager of Community and Employee Relations in a way that touched his fellow workers and left a lasting impression on the city he loved and cherished. His name will live on with the creation in 1995 of the Howard E. Marshall Human Relations Award given annually by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce to an individual whose performance contributes toward fostering better human relations in Maryland in either the public or private sector. Howard leaves to mourn their loss his wife, Mrs. Dorothy B. Marshall; five children, Teri Marshall, Constance White, Della Marshall, William Marshall and Howard Marshall Jr., and many other relatives. Wake services will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at March-West Funeral Home in Baltimore.

MORAN, Ms. Lydia Elma, of Rocky Mount died Saturday, May 18, 1996 in Franklin Memorial Hospital, Rocky Mount, Va. after 10 days in intensive care for a combination of causes. Funeral services will be conducted Monday from Flora Funeral Home Chapel in Rocky Mount at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn in Martinsville. Friends may call at the funeral home for viewing and to be greeted by family members Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. Ms. Moran is survived by a sister, Ms. Carrie E. Gilley of Critz, Va.; a sister-in-law, Ms. Beulah James Moran of Endicott and the widow of her twin, Edgar C. Moran and four generations of nieces and nephews. Born in Patrick Co., Va. May 13, 1906, Ms. Moran and her twin were the youngest of twelve children born to the late Thomas Rufus Moran and the late Charlotte Adeline Via. In addition to her parents and twin, she was preceded in death by nine of her sisters and brothers, Lula F. Martin, James W., Iowa D. Martin, Beulah M. Hall, George W., Albert A. and Alfred O. (twins), Ocie E. and Effie J. Moran. Ms. Moran moved with her mother and sister (Effie) from the family farm on the Smith River to 505 North Main St., Rocky Mount in 1931. She was employed at the same address in a General Mercantile business owned and operated by her twin brothers as A. O. Moran & Company from 1924 until 1978. At the time of her final hospitalization, she had been a resident of the Tanyard Village Apts. in Rocky Mount for several years. Funeral services will be conducted by the Revs. M. G. Goodpasture and Murphy Miller, Interim Pastors, Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church, where Ms. Moran was a member. Fred T. Gilley, a nephew, also will officiate. Joe Ben Jamison will be the soloist. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. MUNSEY, Peggy Stiff, 62, of Thaxton, passed away Friday, May 17, 1996. She was a former resident of Jamestown, N.C. Surviving are her husband, Bobby Lee Munsey; son and daughter-in-law, Barry L. and Anne W. Munsey, Staunton; daughter and son-in-law, Beth D. and Kevin R. Bird, Vinton; three grandchildren, Matthew S., Tyler L. and Spencer K. OLSON, Gordon W., Jr., (``Buzz""), 73, of Martinsville, died Friday, May 17, 1996, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born in Medford, Mass., on September 19, 1922, he was a son of the late Gordon Wesley Olson Sr. and Helen Byrne Olson. He also was predeceased by a brother, Robert W. Olson. A graduate of Bowdoin College in Brunswick Maine, Mr. Olson was a retired manufacturers sales representative. He served as a Master Sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He is survived by a sister, Nancy Ferguson of Billings, Mont.; a brother, John Olson of Brunswick, Maine; three nephews, and one niece. A memorial eucharist will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Ed Covert officiating. The family will receive friends at the Parish House following the service. WARNER, Margaret Prentice, 80, of Blacksburg, died at home after a lengthy illness on Friday, May 17, 1996. She was born in Carswell, West Virginia on September 9, 1915. Mrs. Warner was a member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church and Bluefield Virginia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Hamilton and Alison Rutherford Prentice, and three sisters, Alison Prentice, Nell Prentice and Edith Garten. Surviving are her husband, William Blair Warner; two daughters, Donna Margaret Warner, Virginia Beach, Va. and Gail Blair Wolff, Fort Worth, Texas; one son, William Spencer Warner, Lacey, Washington; five grandchildren, Jack Warner, Randall Willard, Brent Willard, Nicole Willard and Jeffery Wolff; two stepgrandchildren, Sara Arrington and Michael Arrington.
