The Christiansburg Lions Club has designated May as "Eyeglass Recycling Month." Citizens are asked to look through drawers and closets for old, unwanted eyeglases and donate them to the Lions Recycle for Sight program.
Glasses will be taken to the Roanoke Lions eyeglass recycling center, one of five sites in the United States. The center processes tens of thousands of pairs of glasses each year.
"We need everyone to donate their old glasses," said Rodd Hall, president of the Christiansburg Lions. "In most developing countries, eyeglasses are unaffordable to the vast majority of the population. Poor eyesight left uncorrected can force adults into unemployment and children out of the classroom."
Place glasses in specially marked Lions Recycle for Sight collection bins located at Rocco's Pizza, First National Bank in downtown Christiansburg, the National Guard Armory or Stone's Cafeteria. All types of glasses are acceptable.
Call Rodd Hall at 231-3604.
