BAILEY, Mamie Evelyn, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, May 18, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Bailey. She is survived by her daughter, Aileen V. Perry, and a grandson, Gregory L. Perry, both of Washington, D.C.; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Catherine West and Audrey White of Washington, D.C., Mary Ann Smith of San Jose, Calif., and Eva Claytor of Copper Hil l; many devoted nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Loudoun Avenue Christian Church, with the Rev. William L. Lee officiating. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home

BURTON, Clifford Paul, 77, of Route 2, Narrows, died Saturday, May 18, 1996, at his residence on Wolf Creek. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on April 16, 1919, and was the son of the late James M. and Clara French Burton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Peyton Burton and Perry Burton, and a sister, Olivia Warner. He was a veteran of World War II, and was a retired employee of the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company plant at Narrows. He is survived by his wife, Inez B. Burton of Narrows; a stepdaughter, Pamela Stephens of Rich Creek, and a stepgranddaughter, Mecalla Stephens of Rich Creek. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hales Chapel United Methodist Church, Route 2, Narrows, with the Rev. J. D. Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Bastian. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday

CROWE, Lillian Shealor, 92, of Christiansburg, passed away Saturday, May 18, 1996 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 20,1996, at the Cambria Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. and the Rev. Robert E. Crawford, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

DAINGERFIELD, Harry Lawrence, 91, formerly of Christiansburg, passed away Saturday, May 18, 1996. He is survived by his son, Fred S. Daingerfield; a daughter, Gail D. Cromer, and grandsons, Christopher P. Marcani, Aaron D. Cromer and Micah Daingerfield. Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Tuesday, May 21, 1996, at the Huffville Cemetery in Floyd. ETTER, Leroy Elbert, Jr., 71, of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 19, 1996. Mr. Etter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II . He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Thomas and Sue Etter, and Ricky Lee and Jane Etter of Roanoke; grandchildren, Michael Todd Etter and Troy Logan Etter of Richmond, and Lendsey Rebecca Etter and Patrick Manning Etter of Roanoke; sisters, Frances Batinich of San Jose, Calif., Jean Bain of Melbourne, Fla., and LouAnna Kline of Santa Clara, Calif.; brothers, Robert Phillip Etter of Roanoke, Charles C. Etter of Monroe, Wash., Joseph F. Etter of Billingham, Wash., and Michael Kenneth Etter of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a special friend, Lucy Saleeba of Roanoke, and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. Albin P. Crutchfield Jr. officiating. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. HARLOW, Margie Velma, 86, of Buchanan, died Saturday, May 18, 1996. She was a longtime member of Buchanan Baptist Church, and is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jean H. and Lewis Thomas; two grandchildren, Diane Reid and Steven Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Steven, Erin and William; two special great-nephews, David Sanderson and Danny Sanderson; a special great-great-nephew, Daniel Sanderson , and two sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Harlow and Marie Harlow VaNess, all of Buchanan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 21, 1996, at 2 p.m. at the Rader Buchanan Chapel, with the Rev. Leonard Southern and the Rev. Mike Woody officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home

JONES, Thomas Jacob, (``T. J.""), 79, of Wytheville, died Friday, May 17, 1996 at his home. He was born in Independence, Va. to the late Lillie Poe and Kelly Jones on October 22,1916. He was an outstanding man in the community and a faithful member of the Franklin Street United Methodist Church, where he served as Trustee, Chairman of the Ushers, Chairman of the Administrative Board and worked in any other capacity where needed. T. J. was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad Company, where he worked for more than 30 years. He began as a laborer and worked in many positions, retiring as a Foreman. T. J. was a Master Mason of the Hairston Memorial Lodge No. 76 F & AM of Wytheville. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn P. Jones, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Leander Booker, Mrs. A. C. Finney, both of Columbus, Ohio; one uncle, Bishop Booker Jones; one aunt, Evangelist Stella Gentry; stepmother, Mrs. Vergie Jones; two half sisters, Mrs. Eula Jones, Mrs. Sarah McKinney; three half brothers, James and Vanda Jones, Richard Jones; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends, including the Gambill family of Erie, Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 21, 1996, at 12 noon in the Franklin Street United Methodist Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour before service time. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of ar rangements.

MARTIN, Ruby Fi zer, 83, of Christiansburg, passed away Saturday, May 18, 1996 in Radford Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle A. Martin, her parents, James and Eliza Fizer, and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Esther Adkins, Pulaski, Joyce Barnett; three sons and daughters-in-law, William (Bill) and Peggy Martin, Merle (Steve) and Phyllis Martin, James (Jim) and Joyce Martin; one brother, Vernon Fizer; a sister, Evelyn Burton; grandchildren, James E. Martin, Jr., Kevin D. Martin, Michael Martin, Stevie Martin, Timmy Martin, Autumn Martin, Lisa Martin, Malena Martin, Darlene Fizer, Athena Barnett, Daniel Adkins, David Adkins and Eugene Adkins; several great and great-great-grandchildren, all of the Christiansburg area. PERSINGER, Donnie Wayne, 42, of Covington, died Saturday, May 18, 1996. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, Loving Funeral Home Chapel.

REID, John Malcolm, 83, of 919 Mount Elliott Avenue, Staunton, died at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 1996, in the University of Virginia Medical Center. Mr. Reid was born July 7, 1912, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1935, and served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then joined Reid Food Stores and retired in 1973 as president. Mr. Reid was a vice president of Wilson Trucking, served on the board of Richfood of Richmond, and was a director of Planters Bank and Trust Company for 35 years. He had been president of the Virginia Food Dealers Association, and the National Association of Retail Grocers of the United States. Mr. Reid had served on Staunton City Council and as Mayor of Staunton. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Gochenour Shipplett Reid; a son, John Malcolm Reid of Bangkok, Thailand; a daughter, Suzanne E. Williamson of Jonesboro, Ark.; two stepsons, H. Roller Shipplett Jr. of Staunton and Eric M. Shipplett of Fort Defiance, and four stepgrandchildren. His first wife, Ruby Ann Cline Reid, died August 1, 1976. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with burial in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorials may be made to the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad Memorial Trust Fund, P. O. Box 2566, Staunton, Va. 24402-2566. SUTPHIN, Goldie Walls, 63, of Pulaski, died Saturday, May 18, 1996. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, Stevens Funeral Chapel.

TUCKER, James M., 75, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, May 18, 1996. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 82nd Engineers Combat Battalion. He also served in the 29th Infantry Division of the Army National Guard of Virginia for 25 years. He was a retired photographer with the N & W Railway, with 40 years service. He was a former member of the Elks V.F.W. and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Annie W. Tucker; son and daughter-in-law, Leslie B. and Roseanna Tucker; grandchildren, Scott, Geoffrey and Philip Tucker; brother, Beverly Tucker. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 1996 at Evergreen Burial Park, with the Rev. Mark W. Radecke officiating. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel.

VIERS, Peggy Dawn Moor e, 55, of Route 1, Draper (Pine Run), died Saturday morning, May 18, 1996 at the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born September 25, 1940 in Pulaski, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Sophie Bond Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Moore. She was a member of Memorial Christian Church, Draper, Va. Surviving are her husband, Donald Lee Viers, Pine Run; three sons and daughters-in-law, Pierce and Jennifer Viers, Pulaski, Wayne and Angela Viers, Max Meadows, Robert and Laurie Viers, Newbern; two grandchildren, Jamie and Tony Viers; father, Pierce Reynolds, Salem, Va.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Johnny Aliff, Salem, Pat and Sonny Conners, Salem; Dottie and Dick Nemi of Florida; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Moore of Tennessee. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Memorial Christian Church, Draper, with the Rev. Johnny Howlett and the Rev. Mike Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visiting will be held Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Memorial Christian Church, Draper, Va. YOUNG, Blanche T., 92, of Roa noke, passed away Sunday, May 19, 1996. She was the widow of Tillman S. Young. Surviving are a daughter, Janet Y. Goldstein of Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, D. Jack and Margaret B. Young of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Lenda Kay and husband Hayes K. Wyatt of Marietta Ga.; Cynthia Leigh Goldstein of Roanoke, Melinda Susan and husband Edwin McCall of Richmond, Sabrina Annette and husband John Brandetsas of Roanoke, T. Steven and wife Trish Young of Wirtz, Kathy S. Eichelberger, D.V.M., and husband Stanley A. Eichelberger, D.V.M., of Montvale; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Y. Duffy of Salem, and Mrs. Lolene Y. Proffitt and Mrs. Ferne Y. Eddins of Roanoke, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Dr. Carl A. Collins Jr., the Rev. Paige Young and the Rev. Ronald Young officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
