Virginia Tech men's basketball fans can breathe a sigh of relief after Hokies' assistant coach Chris Ferguson turned down an offer to become the head coach at North Carolina-Asheville.
Ferguson, a Tech aide for all five seasons Bill Foster has been the Hokies' head coach, earlier had rejected an offer to join the staff of new North Carolina State head coach Herb Sendek.
``I'm really stressed out,'' said Ferguson, who also was approached about a vacancy on the coaching staff at Penn State. ``Now I've got to get work on [recruiting] juniors.''
Ferguson, 39, grew up not far from Asheville in Hendersonville, N.C., and coached for a year at UNC-A, but he is being compensated by Tech at a level that would have been difficult for the Bulldogs to match.
``I'm comfortable and I'm happy,'' said Ferguson, who also coached at Appalachian State for four years. ``I'd like to be a head coach. One day maybe the right job will come along.''
