MCGUIRE GETS HIS MAN AS FCS BOUNTY HUNTER

TONY MCGUIRE COLLECTS a bonus for arresting Dudley Lawhorn's streak.

Tony McGuire went to Franklin County Speedway on Saturday night looking to collect a bounty.

McGuire did just that as the New River Valley Speedway regular led all 100 laps to win the Ropho Sales 300 Late Model Stock race.

McGuire received $1,200 for winning the race and added another $1,000 to his winnings by collecting the bounty set on Dudley Lawhorn.

Lawhorn, who had won three of the four Late Model races held at FCS this season, was never a factor in this one. Lawhorn got a flat tire on the second lap, had to go to the pits and lost his chances for winning his fourth race at the track.

McGuire, from Roanoke, dominated the early portion of the race, but was caught on lap 43 by Jimmy Mullins, one of the track leaders in points. Mullins stayed on McGuire's tail and almost passed him at one point late in the race when both drivers came up on slower traffic, but he could not get around him.

Two-time track champion Bobby Radford finished third and Tim McGuire was fourth in the 19-car field.

* In the Limited division, Ferrum's Mike Elkins edge Freddie Goff at the finish line to win. Elkins started sixth and worked his way through the field for his first victory of the season. Mike Dudley and Wayne Corprew of Roanoke were third and fourth, respectively.

* In the Pure Stock division, Phillip Vanderveer picked up his second victory of the season by beating Jay Perry. Red Hartman was third, followed by Ashley Wimmer and Kevin Ransome.

* In the Mini Stock division, Gary Joyce got his first victory of the season by outlasting second-place finisher Chris Martin. Dennis Sloan was third, Mike Hall finished fourth and Kevin Laprade was fifth.

* In other divisions, Scott Foley won the Rookies race, Paul Milliner captured the Any Car race, Dwayne Marshall finished on top in the Legends race and Steve Lam won the Classic Modifieds.
