The Roanoke region's weekly wage averaged $451 in the July-September quarter last year, about 12 percent lower than the statewide figure of $510, according to a new report from the Virginia Employment Commission. Stockbrokers, who most often lead the chart, earned $1,009 a week, about $25 per hour when figured on a 40-hour week basis. A total of 361 stockbrokers work in the region, according to state records. The 38,669 state employees, the most of any sector, were paid an average of $558 weekly.
