JMU HEAD GIVES SCHOOL $1 MILLION

James Madison University president Ronald E. Carrier and his wife, Edith, are giving $1million from their estate to endow scholarships at the school.

They announced the gift Monday to mark Carrier's 25th anniversary as president of the state-supported school. The gift is one of the largest ever given by a JMU faculty or staff member.

JMU spokesman Fred Hilton said the gift is made up of proceeds from an insurance policy.

``It is our greatest hope that these funds can help JMU attract high-quality young men and women to our campus in the future and allow them to be part of the JMU way that means so much to all of us,'' Carrier said.
