Thanks to the generosity of the Barker Chiropractic Clinic of Roanoke, 38 children from the Salvation Army Community Center watched the USA play Russia in the Women's Olympic Volleyball exhibition match at the Roanoke Civic Center in April.
The clinic, one of six sponsors of the tournament, donated the tickets because, "we knew these kids enjoyed sports and would jump at the opportunity," said Dr. Jeff Barker.
Children at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church Preschool, North Cross School, Rugby Head Start Development Center and Mill Creek Child Care Center in Fincastle recently hopped at the chance to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southwest and Central Virginia by participating in MDA Hop-A-Thons. Together the four schools raised more than $3,000. The money will be used to sponsor monthly clinics, summer camp and other patient services for local MDA families.
