The Roanoke Kiwanis Club awarded its 1996 scholarships to six Roanoke Valley high school seniors on May 15. Thomas Steven Salter, son of Thomas and Deborah Salter and a William Fleming senior, received the $1,200 Walters Scholarship. Salter will attend Cornell University in the fall.
Anastasia Bacalis, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Nicholas E. Bacalis and a student at Patrick Henry High School, won a $1,000 scholarship. She will attend the University of Virginia.
Other recipients of the $1,000 award are Brian Thomas Finucane, son of Daniel and Kathleen Finucane, Cave Spring High School, Villanova University; Hoa Thanh Mai, daughter of Thieu and Sao Nguyen, William Fleming High School, University of Virginia; Allison Elizabeth Suggs, daughter of Mary Claire Rankin Suggs, Patrick Henry High School, Virginia Tech; and Taharee Apirom Webb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Earl Webb, Patrick Henry High School, Harvard University and Radcliffe College.
