BEDSAUL, Ethel Virginia, 78, of Galax, died Wednesday, May 22, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m., Friday, Fairview Baptist Church. Arrangements by the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax.

BRIM, Eva Hall, 82, of Stanleytown, died Wednesday, May 22, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, County Line Church of God of Prophecy. Arrangements by Howell Funeral Home, Stuart.

BROWN, Emerson Lee, 70, of Covington, died Tuesday, May 21, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Friday, Loving Funeral Home Chapel.

BURCHFIELD, Geneva Taliaferro, 82, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 1996. She was preceded in death by her only child, Robert Taliaferro. Surviving are three brothers, Raliegh Taliaferro of Orlando, Fla., Lacy Taliaferro of Jacksonville, Fla., and Steve Taliaferro of Burlington, N.C.; two sisters, Georgia Bandy and Hilda Graybill, both of Roanoke, and three grand children. A memorial will be held at a later date in Columbus, Ohio.

CANDLER, Major Orville George, Jr., 75, of Roanoke, passed to a better place in the bosom of our Lord, on Monday, May 20, 1996, at a Virginia Beach Hospital. He was born in Lowry (Bedford County) to the late Orville George and Ada Combs Candler, and resided in Roanoke until recently. He retired in 1969 as a Major in the United States Marine Corps after 27 years of service. Major Candler was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Salem, and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Nichols Candler; two sons and daughters-in-law, G. Michael and Cynthia Hughes Candler of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Dr. Robert A. and Shannon Russell Candler of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Brian and Tracy Candler of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Zachary, John, and Abigail Candler of Virginia Beach, as well as several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 1996, at 11:00 a.m., at Hampton National Cemetery, with the Rev. James E. Parke officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of Dr. Robert A. Candler. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. CLARK, Callie Stegall, 91, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, May 22, 1996. Funeral will be held Friday, May 24, 1996 at 2 p.m. at Collins Funeral Services Chapel in Bassett, Va.

DAVID, Emma Jane, 61, of Eggleston, died Tuesday, May 21, 1996, at Heritage Hall following a short illness. Born in Eggleston, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Edward Sr. and Emma Richardson David. She had worked at the RAAP Hercules Plant and for 25 years was an Avon representative. She was preceded in death by th ree brothers, Thomas E. David Jr., Herbert M. David and Arnold R. David Sr. Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, William W. Sr. and Nancy McGuire David of Pembroke; a very special friend and neighbor, Bob Wimmer of Eggleston; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 24, 1996, at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m

GOAD, Harmon R., 59, of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 1996, at his home. He was born July 16,1936 in Carroll County. Mr. Goad was preceded in death by his parents, Cabel and Daisy Jennings Goad and a son, Tim Goad. He is survived by his wife, Nina Shockley Goad of the home; a son, Jeff Goad, Hillsville; a brother, Bently G. Goad, Dixon, Mo.; two gr andsons, Blake Goad and Matthew Goad. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 1996, in Shockley Cemetery with Dr. William Gunter officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Hillsville First Baptist Church Building Fund. GUNN, Anthony (``Tony""), 28, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 21, 1996. Survivors include his wife, Carol H. Gunn, Roanoke; mother, Sylvia A. Gunn, Roanoke; father, Harry Smith, Roanoke; one daughter, LaToya Smith, Washington; one son, James D. Hale, Roanoke; four brothers, Phillip R. Gunn, James A. Bumbry II, Harry E. Cunningham, Tony ``Tee"" Jordan, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Sonya Y. Gunn, Regina R. Cunningham, both of Roanoke; maternal grandparents, Carlton and Theresa Harden, Danville; godfather, Phillip R. Williams, Roanoke; five aunts; five uncles; a host of relatives and friends. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 25, 1996, at 11 a.m. in the Jerusalem Baptist Church with Dr. J. Eugene Young officiating. Interment will follow at Williams Memorial Park. HARMAN, Nancy Smith, 82, of Willis, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 1996 at Lewis-Gale Hospital. She was a retired teacher from the Floyd County School System and a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Willis. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David R. & Jean P. Harman, Willis; daughter, Joanne H. Brusati , Roanoke; sister, Florence Winters, Manteca, Ca; grandchildren, Ellen Harman, Fairfax, Sharon Whalen, Bamburg, Germany, Laura Harman, Willis, Melanie Hall, New York, N.Y., Stephen Brusati, Roanoke. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Willis with Rev. Paul Pingel officiating. Burial will follow in Greasy Creek Cemetery. JOHNSON, Walter Glenn, 84, of Bedford, died Wednesday, May 22, 1996, at Carriage Hill Retirement Center. He was born in Bedford County on September 8, 1911, a son of the late John Walter Johnson and Alice Overton Graves Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clementine Hardy Johnson; three brothers, Harry G. Johnson, Joseph M. Johnson and Warren L. Johnson, and one sister, Cordie Johnson Hubbard. He was a retired farmer, a member of Mt. Olivet Southern Baptist Church, a charter member of Bedford Ruritan Club, a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge #95 A.F.&A.M. and Lynchburg Elks Lodge #321. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 1996, at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Mt. OVERSTREET, Clifford L., 56, of 530 Day Avenue, S.W., Roanoke, died of a self-inflicted wound Tuesday, May 21, 1996, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie and his parents, Thomas R. and Mary R. Overstreet. He is survived by a son, Louis Thomas Collet of Miami, Fla; and two sisters, Mary E. Shrewsbery of Beckley, W.Va., Mollie DeLetter of Jacksonville, Fla. He was retired from AMP, Inc. Roanoke. The body will be cremated and a memorial service held at a later date. WHITLOCK, Lawrence Melvin, (``Chalk""), 68, of Ferrum, died Tuesday, May 21, 1996. Born August 31, 1927, he was a son of the late Eurell and Macie Bolling Whitlock. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Whitlock and two brothers, Hugh Whitlock and Gerald Wood. Surviving are his wife, Amy Whitlock of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Connie Whitlock of Ferrum; three sisters, Jean Davis of Rocky Mount, Sue Fulcher of Bassett, Gaytha Smith of Broadway; four brothers, Bobby Joe Whitlock, Wayne Whitlock, both of Ferrum, Johnny Metz of Glade Hill, Jimmy Wood of Bassett; special sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, Mawyer and Francie Snead, William and Gloria Trail, all of Ferrum; grandson, Richie Whitlock of Ferrum; granddaughter, Michelle Whitlock of Ferrum; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 1996, at Endicott Cemetery with the Rev. Bud Nichols officiating.
