Radford chamber honors two

RADFORD - Russell J. Churchill, founder and president of American Research Corp. of Virginia, is the Radford Chamber of Commerce's Business Person of the Year for 1996.

The Education Support Award went to Norman G. Lineburg, athletic director, football and track coach, and coordinator of physical education at Radford High School. The awards were presented at the chamber's annual dinner May 16.

Churchill founded American Research in August 1982 to conduct research and advanced development in science and engineering for government, higher education and industry. The firm employs 40 people.

Churchill is president of the Virginia Advanced Technology Association and past president of the Radford Rotary Club.

Lineburg's football teams have won 12 district championships, four regional championships and two state championships. His 232 victories put him fourth among his statewide peers in career wins. His 140 career track victories put him fifth among his peers.

He was Virginia Athletic Director of the Year in 1991 and has won many district, regional and state coaching awards.

His former students and friends established the Norman G. Lineburg Honorarium Fund in 1989. Lineburg is one of about 300 people nationwide to be a certified athletic administrator, a voluntary certification process that evaluates a candidate's education, experience and professional contributions.

Firm touts Lotus system

BLACKSBURG - Draper Aden Environmental Modeling Inc., is a new Lotus Business Partner, specializing in Lotus Notes system integration and application development.

The relationship will allow Draper Aden to provide services in data management, electronic publishing, workgroup solutions and network management.

The firm will use Lotus' InterNotes World Wide Web publishing tools to produce interactive client and user groups, help desk support, corporate and client information, and interoffice collaborations on the Internet.

Insurance group names new president

BLACKSBURG - Bobby Cox, an agent with Home Beneficial Life Insurance Co. in Christiansburg, is the new president of the Montgomery Life Underwriters Association.

Cox has been active in the association since 1985 and has been vice president, secretary, treasurer and a three-year member of the board of directors.

Other new officers are Dirk Davis of Nationwide, vice president; Bunchy Compton of Horace Mann, treasurer; and Ed Terry of Southern Farm Bureau, secretary.

The board of directors includes Chris Williams of Mensh Insurance, Kelly Shelton of Nationwide, Billy Reynolds of Southern Farm Bureau, Shelby Quesenberry of Prudential, Charles Turman of State Farm and Lee Griffith of Nationwide.

The Montgomery association works to enhance the professional skills and ethical conduct of its members.
