Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, told 258 graduates of Mary Baldwin College at Sunday's commencement that the United States is the greatest country in the world in which to be a woman.
``We are the beacon to the world for opportunity, and for those who want to work hard to do better for themselves and their families,'' Hutchison said.
The graduation ceremony began outside as planned, but rain drove the graduates, parents, faculty and guests into the school's library.
``If you combine the spirit and character of your ancestors with the education you have received here, you will be able to hold the American dream,'' she said.
