NAZARETH WINS DIVISION III CROWN 11-10 IN OVERTIME

Terry Goetz captured the overtime faceoff and scored the winning goal after only 14 seconds had elapsed Sunday to lift Nazareth over Washington College 11-10 for the Division III men's lacrosse championship.

Washington, which never led, trailed 10-7 before scoring three goals in the final 5:54 of regulation. The Shoremen (13-5) dropped to 0-6 in Division III championship games and 0-4 in overtime NCAA games.

Ben Wineburg, the goalie for Nazareth (15-0), was named most valuable player. The paid attendance of 18,468 at Byrd Stadium was a record for a Division III championship game, breaking the record of 15,768 set at last year's men's lacrosse final. -Staff report
