BARNETT, Robert O. Sr., (Bee), 79, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, at his home. Mr. Barnett served in the Philippines with the U.S. Army during World War II and was sent into Hiroshima with the Engineering Corps after the dropping of the Atomic Bomb to help restore the city. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from the Engineering Department of U.S. Steel as a Cost Estimator. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Gertrude Martin Barnett; his son, Robert O. Barnett Jr. and Linda Sue Long, both of Roanoke; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph T. and Frances M. Barnett, Roanoke; his grandchildren, Chance Crockett Barnett, Leigh Esther Barnett, both of Roanoke; a special niece, Suzanne Barnett, Roanoke, and a special friend, Peggy Pearson. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel Friday at 12 noon with the Rev. John D. Cochran officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park with Military Honors by V.F.W. Post 1264. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Roanoke Memorial Hospital or First Baptist Church in his memory. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

BLANKENSHIP, Betty Lou, of Route 3, Box 689, Bluefield, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, at her home. Born in Waitville, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Coila Wiseman Hall. She was a graduate of Gary High School and had taken her nurses training at St. Lukes Hospital. She had worked at the Bluefield Sanitarium as a licensed practical nurse, and retired from the Childrens Clinic in Bluefield. She was a member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church, as well as the Rock Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Bluewell Woman's Club. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Hall and Edward Hall. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lawrence Blankenship of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jenny Blankenship of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Otis Hall of Princeton, W.Va., Billy Joe Hall of Dublin; sisters, Mrs. Jimmy ``Margaret'' Davis of Bluefield, W.Va., Mrs. Johnny ``Nancy'' Machincia of Dublin. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, W.Va, with Dr. William Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton, W.Va., with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. CANFIELD, Alice M., 82, of Roanoke, Va. died Wednesday, May 29, 1996 in a local hospital. She was born in Vineland, N.J. and formerly of Babylon, N.Y. Mrs. Canfield was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Albert H. Canfield and was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice Henry. She was a ten year volunteer of Lewis Gale Hospital. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Virginia Canfield, Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Joseph Corbett, Sun Lakes, Arizona, Kathleen and Jerry Peeler, Livermore, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Joan Fitzgerald, Pat Scott, Peggy Bloecher, all of Babylon, N.Y.; two brothers, Ray Ryan, Pearl River, N.Y. and Jack Ryan, Schenectady, N.Y. A funeral mass of the Resurrection will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church with the Rev. Kenneth G. Stofft officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Oakey's South Chapel. DICKSON, Tula Mae, 87, of Roanoke passed away Tuesday, May 28, 1996. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Taylor. KING, Charles Gordon Jr., (``C.G., Charlie""), 70, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 1996. He was owner of the Bellview Stock Farm and was retired from the City of Salem as the Captain of the Salem Fire Department after 31 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Salem Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II . He is survived by his wife, Freda Mae King; a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie W. and Kathy King; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte K. and Fred W. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, and a retired employee of Lynchburg Foundry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Young Morgan. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the V.F.W. of Roanoke and was a member of the American Legion , Post # 8 of South Boston, Virginia. He is survived by wife, Shirley C. WEEKS, Howard Preston, (``H.P.''), 67, of Rockbridge Baths, died Tuesday, May 28, 1996, in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. Mr. Weeks was born December 12, 1928, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late John William Weeks and Erdice Aaron Plogger Weeks. He was a member, Elder, and served on the property committee of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. Mr. Weeks served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952, and was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1635. He was retired from Smith's Transfer, where he had worked as shop foreman. Surviving are his wife, Lorene L. Weeks, Rockbridge Baths; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Judith Weeks, Fredericksburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and George Persinger Jr.., Rockbridge Baths, Janet and Ellis Irvine, Lexington; one sister, Helen Ryan, Lexington; two brothers, Wade Weeks, Verona, Henry Weeks, Lexington; three grandchildren, Carrah and Aaron Weeks, Waynesboro, Johnathan Irvine, Lexington; two stepgrandchildren, Tracie Wright, Katie Roland, both of Fredericksburg.
