BEGLEY, Curtis Lee, 27, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 28, 1996. Surviving are his wife, Penny Christina Begley; a daughter, Angelina Elois Begley; a son, Adam Edward Begley, all of the home; his mother, Esther Begley of Roanoke; his father, Con Begley of Bedford; five sisters, Connie Begley, Coleen Call and her husband, David, Charlotte Begley, Cindy Baker and her husband, Eddie, Carolyn Begley, all of Roanoke; and a brother, Charles Begley of Roan oke. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 1996, from Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Interment will follow in Guilliams Family Cemetery, Callaway, Va. BOTTS, Lee, 80, of Bristol, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996. Funeral 4 p.m. Saturday in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel, Abingdon.

BREWER, Walter Frederick, 66, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, May 30, 1996. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Advance Auto before becoming ill. He is survived by his wife, Virginia E. Brewer; four daughters, Tamara, Valerie, Crystal and Kristie Brewer; one grandson, Nasion Brewer, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Doris (Otey) Claytor and Ellida Bundick; two brothers, Willie (Rosa) Brewer and Joe (Rowena) Brewer, all of Roanoke; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Rev. Gene Burris, Roanoke Memorial Hospital Hospice Chaplain, will officiate. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Friends may also call Hamlar-Curtis on Friday for viewing.

CAMPBELL, Betty S., 76, of Chicago, Illinois died Tuesday, May 28, 1996 at her home. She is preceded in death by he r parents and brother. She was a long time resident of Chicago. She was retired after 22 years of service from Stivers Temporary Personnel Inc. where she was Vice President-Personnel and part owner. She is survived by one sister, Ann H. Stevenson, Albuquerque, New Mexico; two daughters and sons-in-law, Drue and Don Cass, Roanoke, Va., Linda and Stan Ong, Phoenix, Arizona; four grandsons, Peter G. Schuyler Jr., Phoenix, Arizona, David B. and Lynn Schuyler, Lake Zurich, Illinois, Bryant F. Cass, Fairfax, Va., Mason I. Cass, Arlington, Va.; one great-grandson, Jacob W. Schuyler, Lake Zurich, Illinois; also surviving are many nieces and nephews and a host of special friends. A memorial service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 1996 at the Old Town School, Chicago, Illinois. CARDEN, John Bert, 75, of Peterstown, W.Va., died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, at his home. He was born in Monroe County on January 7, 1921, and was the son of the late Manley E. and Ada Rudisill Carden. Mr. Carden was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Over the past 55 years, Mr. Carden and his brother, Jennings, previously owned several businesses which included Rich Creek Furniture, Cardens Motel, Cardens Service Station, groceries and appliances. They currently own and operate Cardens Maytag Co. in Rich Creek, and have for over 50 years. Mr. Carden was a real horseman for many years, winning more blue ribbons showing his five-gaited sorrel mare, ``Fancy'', than anyone else in the state of W.Va. at the time he was showing. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Coulter Carden in 1979; a stepson, Kyle (Kim) Coulter; three brothers, Ashby, Jack and Champ Carden; four sisters, Myrtle and Maude Carden, Nora Ford and Katie Sampson. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Mowry Carden; one stepson, Karl Mowry Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Amber Spikes and her husband, Jimmy, of Salem; one brother, Jennings ``Jake'' Carden and his wife, Thelma, of Peterstown; one sister, Virginia C. Carden of Peterstown; six stepgrandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews; and three great-great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 1996, at the First Baptist Church at Rich Creek, with Rev. Alan Wilder, Rev. Roger Hatfield, and Rev. John Offenberger officiating. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Park at Salem. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 31, 1996, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, and at the church one hour prior to the services. DOOLEY, William Kenneth, Jr. (``J.R.''), 47, of Rt. 1 Thaxton, passed away Thursday, May 30, 1996. He was employed at Avis Construction. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Dooley; one son, William K. (Billy) Doole y, Oceana, W.Va.; one daughter, Wanda Sue Short, Oceana, W.Va.; stepson, Bryan Dale Smith, Vinton; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. William (Kent) and Edith Dooley, Thaxton; four brothers, Tommy Dooley, Eddie Dooley, Tony Dooley and Richard Dooley, all of Thaxton; four sisters, Phyllis (Cookie) Sears, Roanoke, Susie DeWeese, Vinton, Judy Hodges, Thaxton, Kathy Myers, Vinton; one special granddaughter, Kalie Ann Smith; special mother-in-law, Irene Saunders. FRIEDMAN, George, 79, of Colville, Wash., passed away Friday, May 24, 1996, in Colville. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice ``Reed'' Friedman, Colville; two sons; three daughters; one sister; and five grandchildren. GREENE, Eirvin O., 74, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 1996, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Mr. Greene was preceded in death by a son, Larry Alan Greene. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Ruth H. Greene; three daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Clay Fitzgerald, Fincastle, Carol G. Tinsley, Donna and Roy Bradbury, both of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Donald, Adam, and Joshua Tinsley, Christy B. Wykle, Carmen and Kevin Bradbury; a brother and sister-in-law, Luther F. and Annetta Green; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Miss Lois Green, Audrey and Sherwood Nichols, all of Franklin Co., Reecie DeWeese, Bertha and Cecil Guilliams, all of Roanoke. Funeral services with military rites will be conducted from the graveside, Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Irvin W. Sloan officiating. GRENNERT, Wavie Alderman, 78, of Route 1, Box 247 Fieldale, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, in Memorial Hospital, Martinsville-Henry County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Grennert Jr. She was born in Floyd County December 13, 1917, daughter of the late Saford C. and Louisa Webb Alderman. She was a retired buyer for J C Penney Co. Mrs. Grennert was a member of Palamar Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Joslyn Center for Seniors in Escondido, Calif. She was a member of the House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Escondido, Calif. She is survived by sisters, Lorine Goad, Dugspur, Pauline Turner, Fieldale, Gracie Bolt, Willis, Cecil Hale, Bassett; brothers, Otis Alderman, Willis, Delmar Alderman, Hillsville, Maynard Alderman, Warsaw, Buel Alderman, Meadows of Dan. She was predeceased by a brother, Elbert Alderman; and a sister, Ora Thompson. Funeral services will be held Friday, 3 p.m., at McKee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Grow and the Rev. S. G. LANN, Susie Smith, 57, of Roanoke, ended her suffering on Wednesday May 29, 1996 at her home. She is survived by four daughters, Susan E. Lann, Roanoke; Helen East, Salem, Stephanie Lann, Roanoke, Ruth Rice, Callaway; two precious grandchildren, Emily East and Cody Rice; her mother, Dorothy M. Smith, Buchanan; three brothers, Norman Smith, V inton; C. Wayne Smith, Alabama, Raymond Smith, Oregon; one sister, E. Ardelia Smith, McLean. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the Rader Buchanan Chapel with Rev. Doug Pedigo officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. MASON, Mildred Johnson, 83, of High Point, N.C., died Wednesday, May 29, 1996. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cumby Mortuary in Archdale, N.C. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. MOTLEY, Mattie Blanche, 91, of Hayward, Calif., formerly of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, May 25, 1996. Survivors include one brother, Odell Penn, Jamaica, N.Y.; one sister, Alberta Stallings, Hayward, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends. PASLEY, Donald Stephen, 71, of Hillsville, passed away Wednes day, May 29, 1996, at his home. He was born October 27, 1924 in Alleghany County, N.C. Mr. Pasley was a winter resident of Ft. Myers, Fla. He attended Eastern Michigan University. He was a First Lieutenant bombardier in World War II from November 20, 1941 to January 20, 1946. Mr. Pasley retired from Ford Motor Company, Detroit, Mich. He operated Galax Tastee Freez for two years and four months. He owned and operated Hillsville Tastee Freez from May 15, 1963 to November 26, 1987, and operated the old Hillsville Towne Theater for ten years. He also owned and operated Bucket of Suds Laundromat, Hillsville. He is survived by his loving family and friends, Ellen Davis, the woman he loved enough to marry, Glade Valley, N.C.; Joe Fielder, son of the heart, Glade Valley, N.C.; special friends and caregivers, Rodney Sawyers, Hillsville, Lloyd and Donna Williams, Hillsville, Loretta Worrell, Woodlawn; stepchildren, Robin Pasley and Shawnee Pasley Sundquist, both of Raleigh, N.C. He is also survived by numerous friends and employees. He was preceded in death by Tony Pasley.

SANDERS, Katy Friel, of Arnold, Md., formerly of Wythe County, died Saturday, May 18, 1996, in Arnold, Md. She had made her home for the past 40 years in Churchton, Md. She is survived by three brothers, George G. Sanders, David P. Sanders, both of Wytheville, Malcolm R. Sanders of Stark, Fla. Four nieces and four nephews also survive. A graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, June 1, 1996, at 2 p.m. at the Graham-Robinson Cemetery with the Rev. Vaughan Earl Hartsell officiating. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

SEMONES, Edith Mae, 84, of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 1996, at her home. She was born January 31, 1912, in Richlands, daughter of the late Robert and Mae Elkins Harris. Mrs. Semones taught in Carroll County Public Schools for 28 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 71. Mrs. Semones was also a member of the Virginia Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hillsville. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Reva Semones, Greensboro, N.C., Don and Ann Semones, Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Betty Wyrick, Asheville, N.C., Janet Patton, Jamestown, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Harris, Richlands, Thurman Harris, Claypool Hill; two sisters, Carolyn Richardson, Christiansburg, Dorothy Oldham, Winston-Salem, N.C. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 1996, at First United Methodist Church, Hillsville, with Rev. Nathan Malone officiating. Interment will be in Felts Cemetery. STATON, G. Loving, (``Big Daddy''), 87, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996, at his residence. Born October 28, 1908 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late John C. and Georgie Staton. Mr. Staton was a farmer and the owner/operator of Staton Barber Shop before retiring. He was a member of the First Brethren Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Effie Coleman Staton; grandson, Marty Staton; and two brothers, James and Early Staton. He is survived by his present wife, Lena Wheeler Allen Staton of Buena Vista; twelve children, Virginia Statome, Henry L. WILCOX, Victor Howard, 41, of Rt. 4, Moneta, passed away Thursday, May 30, 1996, as the result of an automobile accident. He was an executive chef and owner of the Landing Restaurant at Smith Mountain. Lake. He is survived by his wife, Dianne E. Wilcox; one son, Victor Nathaniel Wilcox, of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Louise Wilcox, of the home; parents, William E. Wilcox, Sr. and Wanda O. Wilcox, Newport News; one brother, William E. Wilcox, Jr., Beaufort Co., N.C. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 1996 from St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Graham officiating. WILLIAMSON, James Robert Burger Sr., 84, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, May 29, 1996. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Christiansburg Church of Christ, conducted by Mr. Tom Hodge with burial in Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery, Fincastle. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 179, Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
