AGNOR, Guy B., Jr., of Charlottesville, died Thursday, May 30, 1996. He was born November 30, 1929, the son of the late Guy B. Agnor, Sr. and Ruth L. Agnor, in Lexington, Virginia, where he attended local public schools and graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1951. He served as a Captan in the U. S. Army for four years. Upon his return to Lexington, he worked briefly in his family's business, Harper and Agnor and the Maury River Oil Company. He also taught at VMI. He served as City Manager for the City of Lexington from 1966 to 1972. He became Public Works Director in Charlottesville in 1972 until 1976, when he was appointed Albemarle County Executive and retired from that post in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Margaret and five daughters, Nannette Litz, Carter Bryan, Mary Beth Holly, Sheila Trail and Susan Ali. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Traver of Haddonfield, N. J. and Ruth Anne Herring of Lexington. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah and an infant son. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Charlottesville and until failing health, was active in the Senior Center. He was last year's recipient of the Paul Goodloe McIntire Award, presented by the Charlottesville Albemarle Chamber of Commerce for outstanding community leadership. He was honored by Albemarle County after his retirement through the co-naming of Agnor-Hurt Elementary School on his behalf. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Charlottesville on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment services will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington, Va. DOWELL, Martha E., 61, of Marion, died Thursday, May 30, 1996, in the Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion. She was a native of Smyth County, having lived in the Walkers Creek/Cleghorn Valley Community. She was a me mber of the Church of God of Prophecy, Marion. She was the widow of Jimmy Dowell. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda D. Blevins, Charleston, S.C., Becky D. EASTWOOD, Leah Brown, 102, of 1021 Woodlawn Ave., Beckley, West Virginia, died Thursday, May 30, 1996. Born Sept. 10, 1893 in Wythe County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Rev. James A. and Alice Virginia Sharitz Brown. Her father was a well-known Lutheran pastor, riding horseback to serve churches throughout western Wythe County in the 1800's. Mrs. Eastwood spent her early years on the family farm near Wytheville, Va., and attended Marion College, Marion, Va. She was a graduate of Elizabeth College in Salem, Va., She majored in art and painted a number of pictures in her early years. She was a homemaker and served with her husband, a Methodist minister, as he pastored churches in the Holston Conference in Tennessee and the West Virginia Conference. She was preceded in death in 1980 by her husband, Dr. C. Glenn Eastwood, and by a brother, James A. Brown, and a sister Ruth Brown Kegley, both of Wytheville. She was the oldest member of the Beckley United Methodist Temple, where she was a member of Circle #1 and the United Methodist Women. She was known as ""Auntie,"" by her family and friends. Survivors include two nieces, Ginny Brown, Beckley, whom she raised, and Margaret Spraker, Wytheville; and three nephews, Jimmy Brown and James Kegley, both of Wytheville, and George Kegley, Roanoke, Va.; eight great-nieces and nephews and three great-great nieces and a great-great nephew. The funeral will be Sunday, June 2, at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Temple, Beckley, West Va., with the Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Elbert Perkins and the Rev. JORDAN, Iva Macel, (Mrs. B. P.), 87, of Lexington, died Thursday, May 30, 1996, in the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Mrs. Jordan was born April 12, 1909 in Hurricane, W.Va., a daughter of the late Joshlen Young and Lena Blake Young. She was a member of the Lauderdale A.R.P. Church, and the widow of Byron Paul Jordan. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Jordan. LAPRADE, Rose G., 60, of Roanoke, passed way Thursday, May 30, 1996. She had battled Diabetes and Kidney failure the last five years of her life. She is survived by her husband, Jacob LaPrade; daughter and son-in-law, Susanne and Ray Webb; grandchildren, Catina and Quentin Webb; one son, Danny LaPrade; two sisters, Christine Collins, Betty Wright. She chose to donate her body to medical science so therefore there will be no funeral services. LESTER, Houston H., 88, of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 30, 1996 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amie Thompson Lester. Surviving are several nieces and nephews including: Mrs. Jean Rhudy, of Southport, N.C., Mrs. Josphine Hundley, o f Knoxville, Tenn, and Mrs. Peggy Martz, of Winchester, Va. He and his wife helped organize the First Church of Christ in Roanoke and remained active until their death. Mr. Lester was a member of the Lakeland Masonic Lodge, and retired from Coca Cola Bottling Company after 47 years of service. McCANN, Harold L., (``Mac''), 69, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, May 31, 1996. He was a member of Northview United Methodist Church, Melrose Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and was a member of Past Worthy Patron of the Carrie Lee Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. McCann was a charter member and one of the original founders of the Va. Security Association. He served as chairman for ten years of the Department of Commerces Private Security Board, and was the owner and operator of Blue Ridge Investigation Services, the first locally owned private security company. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol McCann McGeorge. He is survived by his wife, Frances Dyer McCann; daughter, Kaye McCann Bradley and husband, William ``Bill''; son-in-law, Kenneth O. McGeorge; grandchildren, Angela Leigh Moseley, LeBaron Moseley, III, Matthew Owen McGeorge; stepgrandson, Christopher McGeorge; brothers, C. Alfred McCann, Jr., Roy Sherman McCann; sisters, Lois M. NICHOLS, Mamie Elizabeth, of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 30, 1996. Miss Nichols was a graduate of National Business College, and was a secretary for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. RORRER, Ada Bethel Smith, 87, of Galax, passed away Thursday, May 30, 1996, at Eldercare of Franklin County in Rocky Mount. She was born in Carroll County on September 11, 1908. Mrs. Rorrer was a nurse before later on becoming a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolphus D. Rorrer in 1995. She is survived by one daughter, Margie Higgins, Glade Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Herman and Joyce Rorrer, Pulaski, Dean and Zola Rorrer, Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Lattie and Dewey Alderman, Galax; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roosevelt Smith, Indianapolis, Ind., Rev. ROSEN, Jeannette Berson, 75, of Roanoke, passed away at Lewis-Gale Medical Center on Thursday, May 30, 1996, at 8:44 p.m. Her family was with her. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to William and Lena Berson, she came to Lynchburg in 1945 with her husband, Samuel Rosen, also of Brooklyn. There she acted in several theater productions, including ``Sparse Specific'' and ``The Butter and Egg Man'', and was very active in the Sisterhood and Hadassah of Agudath Sholom Synagogue. Moving to Roanoke with her family in 1965, she worked as an accountant at a local lumber company, and participated actively in Hadassah at Beth Israel for many years. Mrs. Rosen is survived by her husband; her brother, Major Joseph Berson of Seattle, Wash., and sister, Pauline Berson of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; her children, Susan Costner of Michigan City, Ind., Sybil Rosen of High Falls, N.Y., and Joshua Rosen of Denver, Colo.; her grandchildren, Jason Costner of Michigan City, Ind., and Jessica Heitman of Chicago, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Jared Heitman. SEMONE S, Edith Mae, 84, of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 1996, at her home. She was born January 31, 1912, in Richlands, Va. She was the daughter of the late Robert Harris and Cordia Mae Wheeler Harris. Survived by two sons, and daughters-in-law, Bob and Reva Semones, Greensboro, N.C., and Don and Ann Semones, Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Betty Wyrick, Ashville, N.C., Janet Patton, Jamestown, N.C.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Harris, Richlands, Va., and Thurman Harris, Clay Pool Hill, Va.; two sisters, Carolyn Richardson, Christiansburg, Va., and Dorothy Oldham, Winston Salem, N.C. SOUTHWORTH, Henry Forrest, III (``Chip""), of New Castle, husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law and friend, took to the Potts Mountain Trail to the land of peace on Wednesday, May 29, 1996. Besides family and friends, Chip left behind many memories of the wonderful man we all knew. Chip loved to hunt, fish, or just be in the mountains. He always seemed to find peace in the mountains of John's Creek. Chip will be remembered for his incredible wit and endless supply of jokes. Upon graduation from New Castle High School in 1967, Chip entered the Air Force. This decision, supported totally by his family, was made at a time when joining the service was not very popular, but Chip knew the importance and necessity of serving his country. While in the service, one of his tours of duty was a year in Viet Nam, After serving 22 years in the Air Force, he retired on April 1, 1990 as a Master Sergeant. Chip attended and was a member of New Castle United Methodist Church. Chip was preceded in death by his father, Henry F. Southworth, II. Survivors include his wife, Karen H. Southworth; daughters, Kelly Southworth, Parker, Colo., Megan and Christi Southworth, New Castle; his mother and stepfather, Mildred and Vince Humphries, New Castle; sister and brother-in-law, Trena and Jeff Boudreaux, Boones Mill; brother and sister-in-law, Spencer and Amy Southworth, Richmond, Ken.; as well as three loving nephews, J., Demas and Ethan Boudreaux, all of Boones Mill.
