TEEN-AGERS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED RAPE

Three Amelia County Middle School students have been charged with attempting to rape a female classmate in a classroom.

The three boys are 13, 14 and 15, the girl is 15, and county officials are not releasing their names because of their ages.

Deputy Sheriff Les Moler said that about two weeks ago, the students were in a classroom where they were supposed to be eating lunch when the alleged assault occurred. He said the girl reported it immediately.

The 13-year-old and the 14-year-old were charged with attempted rape, sexual battery and indecent exposure. The 15-year-old has been charged with attempted rape and sexual battery.

The teens will appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on June 10 for a preliminary hearing.

Superintendent Charles Shell declined to comment, but said in a letter sent to school parents that no rape occurred and that disciplinary action has been taken against the students.
