ALIFF, Jennie Green, 82, of 3720 Knollridge Road, Salem, died Friday, May 31, 1996. She was formerly of Peterstown, W.Va., and New Castle, and had lived in Salem for the past 25 years. She was born at Indian River Hundred, Del., on January 4, 1914, and was the daughter of the late John Henry and Ruth Anna Davidson Green. She was a member of Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Kemper Aliff Sr.; a grandson, Maurice Kemper Aliff III; a sister, Bertha Calhoun of Milton, Del., and a brother, Clifford O. Green of Indian River Hundred, Del. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Maurice K. and Joyce Aliff of Houston, Texas, and Charles H. and Becky Aliff of Salem; three daughters and their husbands, Ruthanna A. and Glen Stover of Narrows, Madeline A. and Paul Harvey of Peterstown, W.Va., and Jeanne A. and Bobby Martin of Salem; eight grandchildren, Greg Aliff, Cheri Fleeman, Belinda Harvey, Tony Harvey, Todd Harvey, Terri Austin, Vicky Thomas and Chad Martin, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with the Rev. Charles Jack and the Rev. John Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's in Narrows after 2 p.m. Sunday.

GARDNER, Boyd Samuel, 78, of Moneta, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. He was born in Bedford County on February 3, 1918, a son of the late Harry F. Gardner and Claudia Falls Gardner. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the Pastoral Relations Committee. He is survived by his wife, Fannie Davis Gardner; three sons and daughters-in-law, William (``Billy"") and Jeanette Gardner of Huddleston, Harford and Linda Gardner of Goodview, and Steve and Betty Gardner of Vinton; a brother, Edward Gardner of Bedford; six sisters, Martha Markham of Stewartsville, Louise Gray, Jimmy St. Clair and Gladys Bush of Bedford, Margaret Ward of Thaxton and Rebecca Witt of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, David Gardner and his wife Wanda, Angie Harmon and her husband Kevin, Samuel Gardner, Warren Gardner, Leigh Anne Gardner, Neil Gardner and Dennis Gardner; a special sister-in-law, Mary Davis Gardner, and a special brother-in-law, Clarence (``John"") Davis. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 1996, from Updike Funeral Chapel in Bedford by the Rev. Dr. Patrick Simon, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery.

GENTRY, Rev. Earl T., 78, of Salem, died Saturday, June 1, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health. Rev. Gentry was a retired Wesleyan minister who served his church for 53 years. He held pastorates at Blacksburg, Altavista, Roanoke and Falls Church; Lexington, Ky., and Birmingham, Ala. He was the first District Superintendent of the Virginia District of the Wesleyan Church from 1959 to 1968, and he ended his career as an institutional chaplain at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Homes in Bossier City, La. Rev. Gentry served on the Board of Trustees at Central Wesleyan College for 27 years, and the General Board of Administration of the Wesleyan Church for four years. He was an Assistant District Superintendent of the Virginia District and the Delta District of the Wesleyan Church. He was president of Salem Camp Meeting Association for many years, and was active in camp meeting ministries throughout the south. Rev. Gentry is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Eulalia W. Gentry; two sons, Charles Thomas Gentry of Durham, N.C., and Dr. Reginald Eugene Gentry of Paris, Ky.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Velma Gentry of High Point, N.C., and two brothers, Rev. Eugene H. Gentry of Sanford, N.C., and Dr. Melvin L. Gentry of Thomasville, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Salem Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Kenneth Foutz. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Wesleyan Church Extension, Virginia District Office, P. O. Box 7165, Roanoke, Va. 24019. The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

GREENWOOD, Thomas Edison, 86, of Boones Mill, died Friday, May 31, 1996 at his residence. He was a son of the late George Washington and Della Mills Greenwood and was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. Surviving are his wife, Hazel H. Greenwood, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Wanda Greenwood, Boones Mill; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Ernestine G. and David Angle, Wirtz, Edith G. and James McLaughlin, Aberdeen, WA., Frieda Greenwood, Granite Falls, N.C., Carolyn G. and Donald Haynes, Wirtz; nine grandchildren; one stepgrandson; eleven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Gottshall officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Boones Mill Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 73, Boones Mill, Va., 24065. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service, 342 S. Main St., Rocky Mount.

LYNCH, Reynolds Gilmer, Sr., 85, of Abingdon, died in Johnston Memorial Hospital Friday, May 31, 1996. He was the widower of Catherine Shepherd Lynch and a native of Russell County. He was a member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church and attended V.P.I in the Class of 1932. He was a veteran of WWII and Retired LTC in the Army Reserves. He was also retired from a cattle business as manager of Feed Mills in Gatherburg, Va., Alexandria, Va. and Charlottesville, Va. in 1973. Survivors include one son, Reynolds G. (Renny) Lynch, Jr., Roanoke; one daughter, Margaret Lynch Burwick, Abingdon; one brother, Ashby B. Lynch Sr., Kingsport, Tenn.; two grandsons, Chris Lynch and Reynolds G. Lynch III. Funeral services for Reynolds G. Lynch Sr. will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Nation officiating. Burial will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas B. Lynch, Ashby B. Lynch, Jr., Mark Leonard, Joe Gilmer, Turner Gilmer, Ben Ames and Jimmy Gilmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Turner Gilmer, Jr., Hugh Gilmer, A. K. Gilmer, H. C. Pratt, A. C. Fuller, Franklin Gilmer and Thomas Phillips. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service in the church Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church. MAHONEY, Raymond Joseph 49, of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 30, 1996. Surviving are his father, Jeremiah J. Mahoney, Arvada, Colorado; sisters, Mary Mahoney, Catawba, Peggy A. Cooper and husband, Bob, Arvada, Colorado; one niece and two nephews, Jeremy, Brian and Kristina, all of Arvada, Colorado. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 1996. The Rev. Frank Feather will officiate. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. PRICE, William C., (``Bill""), 61, was taken home by the Angels from his earthly home in Blacksburg on Thursday, May 30, 1996. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 1996 at the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Sloss and Mr. Donnie Linkous, with interment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening.

ROSEN, Jeannette Berson, 74, of Roanoke, passed away at Lewis-Gale Medical Center on Thursday, May 30, 1996, at 8:44 p.m. Her family was with her. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to William and Lena Berson, she came to Lynchburg in 1945 with her husband, Samuel Rosen, also of Brooklyn. There she acted in several theater productions, including ``Spouce Specific'' and ``The Butter and Egg Man'', and was very active in the Sisterhood and Hadassah of Agudath Sholom Synagogue. Moving to Roanoke with her family in 1965, she worked as an account at a local lumber company, and participated actively in Hadassah at Beth Israel for many years. Mrs. Rosen is survived by her husband; her brother, Major Joseph Berson of Seattle, Wash., and sister, Pauline Berson of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; her children, Susan Castner of Michigan City, Ind., Sybil Rosen of High Falls, N.Y., and Joshua Rosen of Denver, Colo.; her grandchildren, Jason Castner of Michigan City, Ind., and Jessica Heitmann of Chicago, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Jared Heitmann. Funeral services will be at the graveside, Beth Israel Cemetery, 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 1996, with Rabbi Jerome Fox officiating. SADLER, Loraine Edward, (``Raney""), 64, of Roanoke County, passed away Friday, May 31, 1996, in a local hospital. He was retired from the U.S. Army Reserve and was a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Sadler was an employee of American Electric Power and a member of the Welch Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Doris Sadler of Roanoke County; four children, Diana S. Harrison of Stewartstown, Pa., Stewart R. Sadler of Milford, Del., Lora Lea Sadler of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ronald Cannon of Bristol, Va.; three grandchildren, Travis Sadler, Lauren Harrison and Cassandra Sadler; his mother, Ida K. Sadler of Anawalt, W.Va.; one brother, Rex Sadler of Welch, W.Va., and three sisters, Lillis Ashbrook of Sevierville, Tenn., Norma Payne of Julian, N.C., and Selma Huff of Gary, W.Va. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at 11 a.m. Monday, with Dr. Daniel E. Scott officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bluewell, W.Va., at 3 p.m. Monday. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

SHEPHERD, Billie Ray, 77, of Marion, died Friday, May 31, 1996 at Smyth County Community Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Blevins Shepherd; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Robert Hamm, Rural Retreat; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Sue Shepherd, Pat askala, Ohio, Billy Shepherd, Rural Retreat, Jimmy and Nancy Shepherd, Richmond; two sisters, Lura S. Shephard, Whitetop, Helen Byrd, Marion; two brothers, Wade Shepherd, Marion, Martin Shepherd, Richmond; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 3, 1996, at 2 p.m. at Furnace Hill Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
