LAWHORNE IS LUCKIEST OF SEVEN LATE MODEL FINISHERS

Wrecks played a big part in deciding the winners Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway.

Dudley Lawhorne of Collinsville took advantage of a wreck involving leader Jimmy Mullins to take the checkered flag in the Late Model Stock feature race. Sixteen cars started the 100-lap race, but only seven were running at the end.

A seven-car pileup on lap seven was initiated when Don Pollock lost control in turn 2. One lap later, three more cars smacked the wall.

Mullins was in control until he was bumped by Dennis Zanefield as Mullins attempted to pass on lap 64. Zanefield was black-flagged for the incident, but Mullins was knocked out of contention.

Lawhorne inherited the lead and stayed in front the rest of the way. Bobby Radford was second and Larry Hodges finished third.

In the Limited Sportsman division, Mike Dudley also had problems with slower cars, resulting in a three-car pileup. Dudley went on to victory, beating Mike Elkins and Wayne Corprew of Roanoke to the finish line.

In the Pure Stocks, Jay Peery beat Kelly Kingery by inches to take the top position in the division points standings.

In other races, Dennis Sloan Jr., won the Mini Stocks division; Jame Carr beat the Rookie field, with 15-year-old Kenny Sowers coming in fourth; Steve Lamm won the Classic Sportsman competition; and Patrick Evans won the Any Car races.
