THE ROANOKE RACER'S chief rivals collide, helping him to his second victory of the season.
Tony McGuire notched his second victory of the season Saturday night at New River Valley Speedway.
McGuire, of Roanoke, took the lead when Phillip Morris and Rodney Cundiff tangled in turn 2 on lap 18. The incident resulted in Morris being black-flagged and Cundiff losing 10 positions on the track.
McGuire never was threatened from that point.
Jeff Agnew of Floyd finished second and Cundiff battled his way back to take third. Tink Reedy of Roanoke was fourth and Chad Harris rounded out the top five.
In the Limited Division, Jay McCray of Salem won for the first time, taking advantage of a mishap involving race leader Tom Topham and Eddie Walls, who was running second.
``No matter how we got it, we got it,'' McCray said. ``I'm tickled to death for the crew.''
Bruce Brown of Rocky Mount was second and Rob Fain was third, followed by the brother combination of Bo and Tony Howell.
In the Pure Stock division, Tommy Allie captured his sixth victory of the season, the most of any driver in any division. Randy Taylor, Dean Young, Barry Davis and Ronnie Vaught were the other top-five finishers.
Steve Dalton won for the second time in the Mini-Stock division, beating Ray Sowers of Floyd to the finish line. Marty Moore was third, Kevin Snyder fourth and Vernon Landreth fifth.
In the Allison Legacy Cars race, Doug Stevens of Forest Park, Ga., won for the fourth time in six races this season. Royce Peters took second, Steve Green was third, Kevin Diomedi of Roanoke finished fourth and Jim France was fifth.
