Aeroquip plant sale completed

The sale of Aeroquip Corp.'s plant at Bassett in Henry County to GS Industries Holdings Ltd. of Cleveland was completed on Friday, Aeroquip announced Monday. The terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The plant, which makes custom-engineered injection-molded plastic products for industrial, applicance, electronics and other markets, will operate under the name of GS Industries of Bassett. Roughly 85 people are employed in the 148,200-square-foot facility.

GS President Frank Glinski, a former Areoquip plant manager, has said he would like to introduce new technologies into the plant that could lead to more jobs in the future. |- Staff report

Connex announces

new contracts

Connex Pipe Systems Inc. of Troutville on Monday announced new contracts valued at more than $11 million. The company said it has secured a contract from Japan's Hitachi Group for the piping for a 1,200-megawatt power station to be built in Singapore. The pipe will be built in the Connex factory for delivery through 1998.

Additional contracts have been signed for a mining project in Indonesia, a chemical project in Ohio, a power plant in China and a nuclear project in New Jersey, the company said. |- Staff report

Ford announces

safety recalls

DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. on Monday announced two separate recalls of 104,360 cars and trucks to fix door latches that do not meet federal safety standards or faulty wires that could cause a fire.

The company recalled 73,500 1996-model Ford Crown Victorias, Thunderbirds, Explorers, Aerostars, Mercury Grand Marquis, Cougars and Lincoln Town Cars to fix a secondary door latch on the driver's side.

Ford also is notifying 30,860 owners of 1994-95 F-Series Super Cab trucks equipped with a 40-20-40 power driver's seat of a recall to fix wiring that could cause an electrical short and spark a fire. ASSOCIATED PRESS
