A 42-year-old Salt Lake City man died Monday after a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County.
Ernfred Joseph Pearson was driving a tractor-trailer north on I-81 about 11:30 a.m. Just south of Virginia 651, the truck ran off the right side of the road and struck an embankment, state police said.
The impact sent his truck back onto the interstate, where it overturned. Pearson died little more than an hour later at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
