MONTGOMERY BOARD SEEKS APPOINTEES

The Board of Supervisors of Montgomery County will be making appointments to the Community College Board, Community Services Board, Human Services Commission, Library Board, Office on Youth and Advisory Board, and the Social Services Board. All boards have one vacancy with the exception of the Library Board which has two vacancies, and the Office On Youth Advisory Board which has four vacancies.

Interested Montgomery County citizens should submit a letter of intent to Betty S. Thomas, County Administrator, P.O. Box 806, Christiansburg, Va., 24073-0806 no later than Monday, June 10. Citizens must be in good tax standing and registered to vote.

The Community College Board serves as the policy-making body for New River Community College. The appointment is for a four-year term. Meetings are on the first Monday of each month.

The Community Services Board sets local policies and administers area mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse programs. The appointment is for a three-year term. Meetings are on the fourth Thursday of each month.

The Human Services Commission provides a forum for human service agencies and interested citizens to share information and support for human service groups. The appointment is for a three-year term. Meetings are on the fourth Thursdays of September, December and February.

The Library Board administers and establishes policies for the operation of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. The appointment is for a four-year term. Meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month. There are two vacancies.

The Office on Youth Advisory Board examines youth delinquency issues including juvenile crime and drug offenses and helps develop programs for families of troubled youth. Programs include mentoring, work programs for first-time offenders and alcohol and other drug use prevention programs. The appointment is for a three-year term. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month. This board has 4 vacancies.

The Social Services Board provides financial assistance programs and assistance to people who are unable to care for themselves. The appointment is for a four-year term. Meetings are on the third Thursday of every other month.
