ARNOLD, Ethel Hobson, 91, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 3, 1996 in West Chester, Pa. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Abbott, Roanoke, Doris Lee Arnold Struckmeyer, MD, West Chester, Pa.; one son, William (``Bill'') Arnold, Roanoke; one sister, Ola Critz, Roanoke; a granddaughter, Doris Jean Abbott, Roanoke; a grandson, Scott Arnold, MD, Charlottesville. BALL, John Thomas, Jr., 55, of Botetourt, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, June 5, 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Pearl Ball, and was employed by Boone & Company Realtors. Survivi ng are his loving and devoted wife, Nell T. Ball; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Tammy Ball, Lakeworth, Fla.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Holly and Allan Ham, Roanoke; stepson, Drew Taliaferro, Salem; three grandchildren, Dallas, Stone, and Tyler; one sister and brother-in-law, Judi and Chester Jones, Blue Ridge; three nieces; and many more family and special friends who always enjoyed his good sense of humor and enthusiasm for a good joke. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel, 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 7, 1996, with the Rev. William H. Jackson officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m. in Sunrise Burial Park, Fairlawn. BANE, Emma Lee, 87, of Brunswick, Md., and formerly of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, June 5, 1996, in a Frederick, Md. hospital. Born July 25, 1908, in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Reeves and Ollie Roberts Beverley. She was preceded in death by her two hu sbands, Graham Chittum and Harry L. Bane. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Gunter and husband, Ray, of Brunswick, Md., Betty Stull and husband, Layman, of Inwood, W.Va., and Evelyn V. Smith of Buena Vista; two sisters, Frances Sluka of Disputanta, and Elizabeth Firebaugh of Chesapeake; a brother, Lacy Beverley of Monroe; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 1996, at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. W. Wyatt Mayes officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. BOLT, Levy, 80, of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 1996, in Blue Ridge Highlands Nursing Home, Galax. He was born February 23, 1916 in Carroll County, the son of the late Harrison and Mary Largen Bolt. Mr. Bolt served in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, participating in 7 invasions and earning 5 battle stars without a scratch. After the war, he worked for the Virginia Department of Highways for 36 years without an accident to himself or equipment. His greatest joys after retiring were to spend time with his grandchildren and being able to help raise funds and provide assistance to the needy. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Horton Bolt of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Delmar Cockerham, Rural Hall, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Bolt, Jacksonville, Fla., James and Iva Bolt, Portland, Ore., Terry and Joyce Bolt, Fancy Gap, Leslie and Jenny Bolt, Harrisonburg; sisters, Laura Webb, Hillsville, Fannie Newman, Hillsville, Maude Nester, Laurel Fork; half sister, Virginia Ruth Willard, Salem; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 7, 199 6, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, with Rev. Wendell Horton and Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Webb-Skyview Cemetery. BROADY, Laura Eva Hunt, of Roanoke, formerly of North Holston, died Friday, May 31, 1996. Funeral services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at the Fairview Baptist Church, Glade Spring. Rev. Ulas N. COLEMAN, Harold Edward, 67, of Buena Vista, died at his home on Wednesday, June 5, 1996. He was born in Rockbridge County on January 8, 1929, son of Lillian Wilmer Coleman and the late Roy Loving Coleman Sr. He was retired from Lees Carpets. In addition to his mother, he is survived b y three sons, Travis Martin, Harold Coleman Jr. and Troy Coleman of Buena Vista; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Martin of Buena Vista; two grandsons, Joshua Martin and Tyler Martin of Buena Vista; one sister, Faye Coleman Burch of Buena Vista; three brothers, Roy L. Coleman Jr., Curtis Coleman and Jerry Coleman of Buena Vista; an aunt, Pauline Wilmer Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews. DILLON, Ruth Winifred, (``Sis""), 71, of Fincastle, died Tuesday, June 4, 1996. She was a longtime member of the Fincastle United Methodist Church and is survived by one niece, Robyn Kyle; three nephews, Mark Dillon, Scott Dillon, Zane Dillon; several cousins and special close friends. DILLOW, Walter Robert, Sr., 85, of Bland, died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Bland County the son of the late Miller A. and Mary Hester Davis Dillow. He was retired from the Bland Correctional Center where he worked many years as a bookkeeper and a C.P.A. He was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Mary Newberry and one brother, Herbert Russell Dillow. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Painter Dillow of Bland; a son, Dr. W.R. Dillow Jr. of Bland; daughters and son-in-law, Penny and Mack Shannon of Wytheville, Linda O. HALE, Rev. Richard J., 59, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., formerly of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 26, 1996. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Margaret J. St.Clair; one brother, Stephen C. HAYNES, Pauline S., 71, of Roanoke died in a Salem hospital on Wednesday, May 29, 1996. She was born June 5, 1924 in Washingto n County, Va. and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Lamkin St.John and Charles St. John. She graduated from Saltville High School and served in the Navy during World War II. For the past eleven years she has been a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Blacksburg, Va. and prior to that had been a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Salem, Va. for many years. Surviving are one daughter, Penny McIntyre, a nurse in Colorado Springs, Colorado and her two sons, Jason McIntyre, a student at Colorado State University and Joel McIntyre of Denver Colorado; also surviving are one son, Bob Smith, a college professor in Rochester, N.Y. and his son, Eric Smith, a student at Williams College; and one sister, Mrs. Russell Fore of Glade Spring, Va. A memorial service will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 1996. The family suggest memorials be made to a favorite charity.

HUNLEY, Hattie Worley, 88, of Rocky Mount, died Wednesday, June 5, 1996. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Claude W. Jr. and Delores Worley, Ferrum; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gilda Haley, Rocky Mount, Frances and Robert Hodges, Ferrum; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Veltie Dodson, Rocky Mount; five stepsons; and a special friend, Ruth McDaniel. JOHNSON, Mildred Tomlinson, 84, of Big Island, and formerly of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 5, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Bedford County January 17, 1912, a daughter of the late Wiley B. Tomlinson and Hallie Harrison Tomlinson. She was a member of Bedford Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, H. Bernard Johnson; her brother, Hugh C. Tomlinson; and three sisters, Mattolyne O. Tomlinson, Ethel T. Arrington, and Barbara C. Tomlinson. She is survived by her brother, Jack W. Tomlinson of Big Island; two nephews, Gary W. Tomlinson and Jack Glenn Tomlinson, both of Lynchburg; a great-niece, Carrie Ann Tomlinson; and a great-nephew, Christopher Glenn Tomlinson. KERNODLE, Morris Grant, 76, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 3, 1996. Born in Pittsylvania County to the late Jerry and Lucinda Kernodle. He was a member of First Baptist Church, North Jefferson St. and was in the US Army and a wireman at the General Electric Plant in Salem for 25 years. Survivors include his devoted wife, Odessa James Kernodle, Roanoke; one brother, Jerry Kernodle, Danville; three sisters, Helen Travis, Danville, Pauline Lipscomb, Richmond and Hazel Kernodle Price Walker, Hempstead, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Mae Byrd Kernodle and Virginia Kernodle, Danville; two brothers-in-law, Sylvene Lipscomb, Richmond and Emmett Walker , Hempstead, N.Y., and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends in Danville and Roanoke. ROBERTSON, Lucille Nicely, of Roanoke, completed her earthly journey Wednesday, June 5, 1996, at 81 years of age, but 16 at heart. The ability to make others laugh was her trademark. She loved life and with her positive attitude was an inspiration to all those she met. Laughter, music and song were the keys to her happiness. A retired Sears employee, Lucille was preceded in death by her only daughter, Pamela Webb. Lucille will b e treasured in the hearts and minds of her extended family of cousins and friends. Graveside services will be held at Restvale Cemetery 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 1996, with services to be conducted by Chaplain Thomas Clay of Richfield Chapel. RUCKER, Joseph Anthony, Jr., 89, of Bedford died Tuesday, June 4, 1996, at the Elks National Home. He was born in Bedford, August 21, 1906, a son of the late Joseph Anthony Rucker Sr. and Eliza Cauthorn Rucker. He was a graduate of Washington and Lee University, a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Lynchburg Elks Lodge #321 and was retired Quality Control Manager of Rubatex, Corp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Logan Herndon Rucker and his sisters, Virginia Browning Rucker Ramsey, Eleanor Jordan Rucker and a brother, George Cauthorn Rucker. He is survived by his son, Joseph Anthony ``Tony"" Rucker III and his wife, Nora A Rucker of Annapolis, Md.; two brothers, Dr. William V. Rucker and his wife, Hilda P., Ambrose A. Rucker and his wife, Helen W., all of Bedford; two grandchildren, Ann Herndon Rucker Zero and her husband, James F. Zero of Annapolis, Md., and John Vincent Rucker and his wife, Kelli M. Rucker of Birmingham, Ala.; one great-grandson, Joseph John Zero of Annapolis, Md. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery Thursday at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. THOMPSON, Ealie James, 98, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 1996. He joined his wife, Sarah Ellen, of 70 years. He was a member of North Roanoke Bapti st Church, and was a retired foreman of Hinman's Plant Farm. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James and Hazelteen Thompson; granddaughter and husband, Louise and John Castleman of Rocky Mount; grandsons and wives, Jimmy and Patricia Thompson, Dennis and Betti Thompson of Roanoke; great-grandson and wife, Bill and Kelly Castleman, Montvale; great-grandsons, Jim and Adam Thompson; and great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Thompson; sister, Virginia Wahls, High Point, N.C.; brother, Pearl Thompson, Pageland, S.C.; also several nieces and nephews in North and South Carolina.
