The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra is taking requests from its listeners for its Pops by Request concert June 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center.
Listeners may make 10 song selections from the categories of pop singles, movie themes, Broadway themes and TV themes. The most requested songs will be declared the winners, and a full orchestra version of each winner will be performed by the orchestra.
Official ballots are available from the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra offices, Jefferson Center, 541 Luck Ave., Suite 200, Roanoke, Va. 24016. Voting closes June 15.

Preservation workshop
Historic preservation will be the theme of a workshop June 17 at 7 p.m. at Fincastle Presbyterian Church.
Designed for owners of historic properties, the educational event will cover topics including procedures for listing properties on the national and state historic landmark registers and preservation techniques.
Speakers will include staff members from the Virginia Dept. of Historic Resources.
The workshop is sponsored by the Valley Conservation Council, a regional non-profit citizens organization, which promotes land use and conversation techniques that sustain the cultural heritage of the area.

Therapeutic riding
The Roanoke Valley Therapeutic Riding Program will host a pleasure trail ride June 21-23 at the Rockbridge Hunt. Cost, including meals, is $60 for adult riders and $40 for nonriders and riders under 18.
Horses need to be conditioned because the terrain is moderately challenging. All funds go to support the riding program, which is a nonprofit organization that benefits adults and children with disabilities.
