GIRLFRIEND SAYS BROTHER KILLED BEAU

Sharon Wilson, who lost her boyfriend in a shooting last month, testified Thursday that her brother was to blame.

After hearing Wilson's account, a Roanoke General District Court judge ruled there was probable cause to support charges that Eric T. Waller shot and killed Marvin T. Williams the afternoon of May 12.

The shooting apparently stemmed from a stormy relationship between Wilson and Williams, who shared a home on the 1400 block of Grayson Avenue Northwest. Wilson testified that she had charged Williams with assault and once sought a restraining order against him, but added that they had patched up their problems.

Wilson said her 25-year-old brother, Waller, came to the home about 4 p.m. and asked Williams why he was always fighting with her. Waller then pulled a gun and shot Williams as he sat on a couch, Wilson testified.

An autopsy revealed that Williams, 20, suffered 13 gunshot wounds to his face, chest, abdomen, back and left arm. He died a short time later at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Waller, who did not testify at Thursday's preliminary hearing, turned himself over to police shortly after the shooting. He was later released on bond.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Wanda DeWease said she will ask a grand jury that meets next month to indict Waller on charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm.
