UNITARIANS HOLD FLOWER COMMUNION

SERVICES

* Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will have Mass at its summer hours at 6 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street in Christiansburg. 382-8028.

* Blacksburg's St. Mary's Catholic Church on Harding Avenue will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today, and at 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. Sunday. The readings will be: Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16; Psalms 147:12-15, 19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; and John 6:51-58.

* "Celebrating Community," an intergenerational flower communion and member appreciation service, will be led by Rudi Gelsey on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the New River Valley on Gladewood Drive in Blacksburg. 552-8050.

* Blacksburg's Metaphysical Chapel on Lee Street will host John Dumais, who will speak on "Non-Resistance" Sunday at 7 p.m. 951-4848.

* Zion Hill Baptist Church will celebrate its 107th anniversary Sunday at 3:30 p.m., with Kenneth Wright and his choir from First Baptist Church in Roanoke. 639-1938.

* Bishop John Charles Vockler will speak at St. Peter's Church in Christiansburg on Sunday to administer the sacrament of confirmation. Vockler was ordained a priest in his native Australia and has ministered and taught throughout the United States and Australia since then. 382-7970.

* Edgemont Christian Church on Mud Pike in Christiansburg will have a revival Monday through Friday at 7:30 p.m with guest speaker Dan Levesque, a Pulaski County pastor. 552-1237.

* Trinity Lutheran Church in Pulaski will move its 10:30 a.m. service to the picnic area on Claytor Lake on June 16. A potluck picnic will follow the annual informal worship.

* Auburn United Methodist Church in Riner will have a homecoming to mark its 111th anniversary June 23 at 2 p.m. 382-4478 or 382-3876.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS

* Belmont Christian Church will have vacation Bible school Sunday through Thursday from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m., for ages 2 through adult. 382-8521.

* Lafayette United Methodist Church will have vacation Bible school Monday through Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m. 268-5403.

* Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church will have vacation Bible school Monday through Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m. 552-5070 or 381-0636.

* Faith Christian Church of Christ on Roanoke Street in Christiansburg will have vacation Bible school June 16 through 21, from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Kick-off and registration is June 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. 381-9792.

* Indian Valley Presbyterian Church will have vacation Bible school June 17 through 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., for children and adults. 789-4396.

* First Christian Church on Tyler Avenue in Radford will have vacation Bible school June 23 through 27. 639-3696.

* The Presbyterian Church of Radford, St. Jude's Catholic Church, Grace Episcopal Church and Christ Lutheran Church will have an ecumenical vacation church school June 23 through 26 at the Presbyterian Church of Radford. * Park and Asbury United Methodist Churches in Christiansburg and Radford will have a joint vacation Bible school June 23 through 28, at 6 p.m. June 23 and 6:30 until 8 p.m. the remaining days. Registration is June 16 at both churches. 639-3354 or 382-1548.

* At Christ Episcopal Church in Blacksburg three family night programs on June 26, July 24 and Aug. 24 will replace the usual ecumenical vacation Bible school this summer. A potluck meal at 5:30 p.m. will begin the events with the programs beginning at 6:15 p.m. and ending by 8:30.

JOYFUL NOISES

* New Hope United Methodist Church in New River will host a benefit gospel sing today at 7 p.m. to help send community children to summer camp.

* The Carpenter's Tools will perform at Fairview Community Church on Glade Road in Blacksburg Sunday at 7 p.m. 951-2321 or 382-1880.

* Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria St. in Christiansburg has scheduled a gospel blue grass concert June 21 at 6:30 p.m. It is open to folk instrumentalists and singers. Call Laurie Coleman at 382-9662.

PEOPLE

* The Rev. Leighton Culler, interim minister at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church for the past 18 months, will leave the position on June 15 to take a similar job at Crestview Presbyterian Church near Cincinnati, Ohio.

Culler, a professional temporary pastor for congregations in transition, came to the church following the retirement after more than 25 years of the Rev. Vernon Miller.

The Rev. Joanna Stallings, who has been temporarily on the staff of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Blacksburg for several months, has been chosen the minister of youth and education for the parish. Now a United Methodist pastor, Stallings plans to pursue ordination in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

* First Christian Church on Fort Branch Road in Pearisburg will have an ordination service for their minister Jesse Kearns Sunday at 3 p.m. Kearns has been minister at the church for four years and has been a student at Emmanuel School of Religion.

* A social June 23 at 4 p.m. at Nellie's Cave Park will honor the Rev. Roderick Sinclair who is retiring as Episcopal chaplain at Virginia Tech. Sinclair and his wife, Louise, will remain in Blacksburg.
