The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a last-ditch attempt to block the use this November of Georgia's new congressional district map, one that features just one majority-black district.
The court, without comment, turned down an emergency request by some voters who sought to shelve the reapportionment plan imposed by a three-judge federal court panel in Georgia.
The lower court's plan was imposed for this year's elections after a plan drawn by the state Legislature that featured three majority-black districts was struck down as the product of unlawful racial gerrymandering.
The nation's highest court already has agreed to review the validity of the court-imposed plan.
