GRAND JURY CHARGES MAN IN CALLS TO GIRLS FATAL-CHASE DRIVER ALSO INDICTED

A Roanoke County grand jury indicted Michael Obremski on Friday on 19 counts of making harassing telephone calls to girls, adding to the nine similar charges the 42-year-old cook faces in Roanoke.

The indictments were returned a day after a Roanoke General District judge threw out two felony charges that accused Obremski of making threatening telephone calls. The dismissal does not affect the other charges against him.

Roanoke County police charged Obremski in May after they said they connected him to a threatening telephone call made to a 14-year-old girl. The caller asked for the girl by name and said, "You are going to be raped."

Obremski's arrest capped a 21/2-year investigation into harassing telephone calls to girls in the Roanoke Valley.

Friday's indictments include 11 counts of threatening to abduct girls, seven counts of proposing indecent liberties to girls and one count of making an obscene telephone call to a girl, according to Roanoke County Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Marian Kelley. The charge police placed against Obremski in May is included in the 19 indictments, she said.

Most of the Roanoke County cases arose from phone traces that implicated Obremski, Kelley said.

A trial date on the Roanoke County charges is scheduled for Aug. 14. Obremski remains in Roanoke County Jail without bond.

Also Friday, the grand jury indicted Scott Allman on three counts of involuntary manslaughter. Police charged Allman on April 21, after he led them on a 15-mile chase that ended when he crashed into another car, killing a couple and their infant daughter. Thomas Faucher Jr., 34, and Lori Mason, 36, died at the scene. Their 6-week-old child, Joleen Faucher, died the next day.

Allman is scheduled to plead guilty to the charges June 25.
