A bathtub accident claimed the life of a developmentally delayed Montgomery County girl early Friday evening.
Blacksburg Fire and Rescue responded to a residence three-fourths of a mile outside the Blacksburg town limits on Mount Tabor Road about 4:25 p.m. and found the 6-year-old girl, who was not identified.
The father discovered the girl in the tub and tried to resuscitate her before the rescue squad arrived, said Lt. William Tolley of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
The girl was transported to Montgomery Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
"She commonly played in the tub, and her parents checked on her frequently utilizing an electronic monitor," Tolley said.
The girl had a history of seizures and was taking anti-seizure medicine, Tolley said. It is not known if a seizure had anything to do with the drowning.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will continue to investigate.
