The 72nd State Fair of West Virginia will be Aug. 9-17. Ticket sales begin June 17 for phone and mail orders only. Any mail order received postmarked before June 14 will be returned unprocessed. 'Sweet Charity' tryouts announced

Showtimers Studio will hold auditions of singers, actors and dancers for ``Sweet Charity'' on Sunday and Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Jenefer Davies will direct. Call 774-2660.

Community conversation at peace center

Plowshare Peace and Justice Center invites participation in a community conversation on ``Cities Without Cars: A Vision of Urban Tranquility'' June 13 at the center's new location in Grandin Galleria in Roanoke.

The discussion is the first in a series of such conversations on second Thursdays.

Grace Church 45th anniversary

Grace Church of Roanoke will host "45 Years of Grace" June 22-23. The Saturday events at Moyer Park in Salem begin at 5 p.m. with a social time, food, games and activities for children. Please bring a dish to share.

Sunday at 9:15 a.m. will be time to share photos and slides, followed by coffee and snacks. Morning worship is at 10:45 a.m. Call 982-0105.

Sedalia Center plans outdoor musical

The story of Bedford County will be told in an outdoor musical produced by The Sedalia Center and presented at the center beginning in 1998.

Books, documents, photographs and family stories pertaining to the history of Bedford County are requested, as well as people interested in working on the drama, including research, writing and composing.

The proposed drama will encompass some of the important changes, heroic traditions, struggles and joys of people who participated in the everyday life of the territory now known as Bedford County.

The historical drama will be the fourth such production in Virginia. ``The Long Way Home'' at Radford, ``Trail of the Lonesome Pine'' at Big Stone Gap and ``Stonewall Country'' at Lime Kiln in Lexington have proven to be long-time tourist attractions. Call 586-4697 or (804) 299-5080.

TV commercial audition today

The Clubhouse Kids Productions will hold auditions for children ages 4 to 8 and for parents ages 23 to 35 for a local TV commercial Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at River Ridge Mall, Lynchburg.

Parents are asked to bring a snapshot and name, age and address of auditionees to the mall's east court in front of JC Penney.

Children who are chosen for the commercial will receive a paid scholarship to The Clubhouse Kids acting company. Call 586-0652.

Arts council resource directory

The Cultural Education Resource Directory of the Arts Council of the Blue Ridge is available. The directory contains descriptions and contact information for many programs for students from preschool through adulthood.

Copies have been distributed free to area school and are also available for reference in The Arts Council Library. Additional copies may be purchased for $2 plus postage.
