MEDICAL DIRECTOR APPOINTED

DR. MARK D. TRIPP has been appointed medical director of the emergency department at Lewis-Gale Medical Center and Lewis-Gale Clinic in Salem.

He holds a medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the university.

After an internship in general surgery at the Health Science Center in Syracuse, N.Y., he completed a residency in emergency medicine at York Hospital in York, Pa.,

He also was an assistant professor of emergency medicine for Northeastern College of Medicine in Youngstown, Ohio. Tripp is a fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians and a member of both the Ohio State Alumni Medical Society and the American College of Physician Executives.

ACCOUNTING

RICHARD C. CRABBS of Salem was elected a vice president on the board of directors of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants for 1996-1997. He is vice president of Scearce and Crabbs in Roanoke. ALEXANDER BOWMAN JR. of Anderson & Reed in Roanoke and DEBORAH L. GLOSSBRENNER, director of financial services for Blacksburg, will represent the Roanoke Area Chapter on the board. JAMES K. SELLS of Sells, Hogg & Jones in Martinsvlle will represent the Piedmont Chapter on the board.

BANKING

TONI L. O'NEIL has joined Valley Bank as manager of its Starkey Road office. She previously was assistant vice president and branch manager of First American Federal Savings Bank. She has been in banking for more than 13 years.

BIOTECHNOLOGY

WILLIAM R. BECK, formerly of Ridgefield, Conn., has joined Dominion BioSciences Inc. in Blacksburg as vice president of commercial development. Beck has 20 years of experience in commercial product development and marketing. Founded in 1993 at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, Dominion BioSciences began as a virtual corporation and is now a biotechnology firm concentrating on the pesticide industry.

ELECTRONICS

JOHN DOMALSKI and STEPHANIE WEST have been named vice presidents at ITT Night Vision in Roanoke. Domalski, director of military marketing and sales, oversees all military business development efforts for the division. West, director of research and development engineering, is in charge of all design and development engineering activities relative to ITT's night vision systems.

HEALTH CARE

RICHARD R. HOUGH has been named chief operating officer for Livonia, Mich.-based Universal Self Care Inc. He formerly was chief financial officer of Roanoke-based Advance Stores Co. Inc. Universal Self Care, which has an office in Roanoke, provides diabetes equipment, supplies and services through its subsidiary, Diabetes Self Care.

LILA A. SHAFER has joined Corporate Concepts Inc. of Roanoke as an employee benefits specialist where she will be responsible for sales and marketing of group and individual products. Shaffer previously was employed by Coordinated Services Management as an administrative assistant.

INSURANCE

THOMAS R. BROWN, division manager of the Richmond and Norfolk divisions of Thomas Rutherfoord Inc., has been named senior vice president of marketing for the company. He joined the firm in 1979. DAVID E. KEYS, division manager of the Alexandria division, has been named vice president of sales. Thomas Rutherfoord, which serves clients in construction, manufacturing, wholesale and retail, property management, hospitality and transportation, has an office Roanoke.

BRAD KNOPF has been named manager of underwriting and market development for Delta Dental Plan of Virginia, based in Roanoke. He will be responsible for risk management, new product development and market support. He previously was a senior product manager for Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield.

LAW|

MARY C. MALONE, BRUCE G. SANDMEYER, JAMES R. CREEKMORE and ANNA M. KANE have become associated with the Roanoke law firm of Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove. Malone is a graduate of the University of Richmond law school; Sandmeyer previously was associated with a Dayton, Ohio, law firm; Creekmore was a law clerk to the Hon. James C. Fox, chief judge of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of North Carolina; and Kane was a law clerk to the Hon. Rebecca Beach Smith of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia.

MANUFACTURING

KELLY CAIN has been promoted to vice president, product development and merchandising for Stanley Furniture Co. Inc.'s bedroom and youth product lines. Cain joined Stanley in 1981 as a sales representative and has worked in several positions for the company, most recently as vice president sales, national accounts. RITCHIE B. ROBY succeeds Cain in that position. Roby, who has been head of a sales team covering Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, began his career with Stanley in 1992.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

GERALD W. GALLIMORE, operations manager for Citizens Telephone Cooperative in Floyd, has been elected treasurer of the Virginia Telecommunications Industry Association. J. ALLEN LAYMEN, president and chief executive officer of Roanoke and Botetourt Telephone Co. in Daleville, was elected to the board.
