The Virginia Highlands Festival invites entries to several competitions at the 48th annual festival, Aug. 3-18 in Abingdon.
Photographers may enter a photography competition and exhibition. Entries will be accepted July 10-19 at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce in Abingdon. Only those entries chosen by the judges for exhibit will be displayed. There is a $4 entry per photograph. Entries will be accepted in three categories: nature, color pictorial and monochrome, in two classes of competition, proficient and amateur.
Entry forms are available for the festival's Juried Art Show and Gallery. Entries will be accepted at the Arts Depot in Abingdon, July 27-28. Entry fee is $10 per work, with a maximum of two entries per applicant. Advanced registration by mail is strongly encouraged.
Children under age 13 and young adults ages 13-19 may enter the festival's youth photography competitions. Entries will be accepted for both divisions July 10-19 at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. Only those entries chosen for exhibit by the judges shall be displayed. Entries will be judged in color and black-and-white categories for both divisions. There is a $2 entry fee per photograph. There is no limit to the number of prints entered.
Young artists in grades K-12 are invited to enter an open visual arts competition. Cash prizes and awards of merit will be given in four divisions: Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-2. There is a $2 fee per entry, and no more than two entries will be accepted from a single artist. Art may be submitted in person July 3-21 at the William King Regional Arts Center in Abingdon.
