Artist in residence|
at Abingdon studio|
ABINGDON - Portrait artist Vicars "Vicky" Lynn McKinney is artist in residence at the Studio I Arts Depot this month.
Perhaps her most-viewed portrait so far is that of Rex Partington, former artistic director at Barter Theatre, where it now hangs. McKinney has been commissioned to paint portraits of singer B.J. Thomas for his music hall in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and the late actor Randolph Scott, a native of Charlotte, N.C.
McKinney is a 1978 graduate of the Harris School of Art in Tennessee, has studied extensively with Ron Taylor at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, and with portrait artists and teachers Cedric and Joanette Engeli of Maryland. In 1994, she was selected to study with the Engelis at the Cape Cod (Mass.) School of Art and was one of 20 artists chosen by Everett Raymond Kinstler for a master's workshop at the National Academy in New York.
The Arts Depot is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, or by appointment by calling 628-9091.
