State police are awaiting toxicology reports on the Roanoke driver who died along with his passenger in a fiery crash Friday in Botetourt County.
Edward Tyrone Lee, 38, of Mercer Avenue and 39-year-old Kirk L. McCall of Hershberger Road were headed south on U.S. 220 after visiting Lee's girlfriend in Bath County, state Trooper G.K. Straub said, when Lee's car veered into the path of a logging truck. The truck driver tried to avoid the collision, police said, but struck the passenger side of the vehicle.
McCall was ejected from the car and died at the scene. The car caught fire, and Lee was unable to escape.
Other motorists reported seeing the car weaving from lane to lane just before the accident, Straub said, so police are investigating whether the driver had been drinking. Toxicology test results won't be back for several weeks.
