A grand jury indicted a Pulaski man Monday on charges of burglary, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with an incident last year in which a woman wrested a knife from her attacker.
Gary Lee Wall, 19, was arrested by city and Radford University police soon after the Aug. 9 attack.
Radford Commonwealth's Attorney Randal Duncan said Wall is scheduled to plead guilty to all three counts July 26. He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison on the three charges, Duncan said.
Police allege Wall broke into a home in the 700 block of Tyler Avenue about 11:15 p.m.
After a struggle with her attacker, a woman in the home was able to take away his knife. The man then fled, police said.
The victim was treated for minor injuries. Wall was arrested after a tip from a convenience store clerk who notified police that a man fitting the attacker's description was in the area.
Officers arrested Wall as he walked along Tyler Avenue near the Radford University campus, a few blocks from the house. Wall was carrying property from the house, police said.
French David Kanode, who was 21 at the time of the attack, also was arrested based on information from Wall. Police believed Kanode was in the woman's apartment during the attack, but she did not see him.
Duncan said the case against Kanode crumbled at the preliminary hearing when Wall recanted earlier statements that incriminated Kanode.
