UVA SIGNEE MAY MAKE THE GRADE

Preliminary calculations indicate Virginia men's basketball signee Kris Hunter has met NCAA requirements for freshman eligibility.

Hunter's test scores and transcript have been mailed to the NCAA, which is standard procedure, but sources say he has a combination that meets the NCAA's sliding-scale requirements.

Hunter, a 6-foot-9 post player, averaged 16.1 points and 13.8 rebounds this past season for Florida A&M High School in Tallahassee. He was rated the nation's No.36 prospect by recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons.

The Cavaliers still are awaiting word from the NCAA on the eligibility of 6-9, 240-pound Australian Craig McAndrew, who played three games for a team that included professionals. Because of that, McAndrew may not have four years of eligibility at an NCAA school.
