TECH PITCHERS SIGN CONTRACTS WITH AL CLUBS

Fitzgerald, selected in the 20th round of last week's draft by Seattle, signed with the Mariners and is ticketed for the American League club's Class A team in Everett, Wash.

Fitzgerald, a left-hander from Woodbridge, established career records for victories (28), innings pitched (3871/3) and strikeouts (271) at Tech. He was 7-5 with a 3.35 ERA with two shutouts this past season.

Gillian, chosen in the 26th round by Minnesota, signed with the Twins on Monday. The junior will forego his senior year at Tech and report to the American League team's Class A club in Fort Myers, Fla.

The sidearm right-handed reliever from Beckley, W.Va., set a Tech single-season record with 14 saves in 1996. He was 2-1 with a 1.98 ERA this past season and was named second-team All-America by Collegiate Baseball.
