Horse magazine to cover all of Va.

A Charlottesville-based equine magazine, the Virginia Horse Journal, said it will expand its coverage in August to serve the entire state.

The bimonthly magazine started 18 months ago to serve the central Virginia region.

The magazine said it will change its format to tabloid size in August to accommodate the wider coverage.

New departments that will be introduced into the magazine include: statewide hay and boarding stable directories, a new product column and real estate listings for horse properties. |- Staff report Bank to buy share

Centura Banks Inc. of Rocky Mount, N.C., plans to buy a 49 percent share of First Greensboro Home Equity Corp. of Greensboro, N.C.

First Greensboro, which has an office in Roanoke, specializes in providing first mortgages for people whose borrowing needs are generally not met by traditional financial institutions.

It will retain the controlling interest of 51 percent, and its current management will remain in place.

The companies said in a joint statement that the purchase will allow Centura to diversify its income stream. and give First Greensboro the opportunity for further expansion.
