7 AREA SENIORS GET SCHOLARSHIPS

The E. Price Ripley Memorial Foundation, an educational, nonprofit organization established in honor of the late insurance professional, recently awarded scholarships to seven Roanoke-area high school graduates.

Students were selected for the award based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need.

Amy Marie Bowman of Rocky Mount, a Franklin County High School graduate and daughter of Warren and Anne Bowman, received a $1,000 scholarship. She will attend Virginia Tech in the fall and major in environmental science.

Marilyn Shin Huang, Taharee Apirom Webb and Allison Elizabeth Suggs also won $1,000 scholarships. Huang, the daughter of Rex and Amy Huang of Salem, plans to study engineering at Georgia Tech.

Webb, a Patrick Henry High School graduate and the daughter of Richard Webb Sr. and Donna Mack, will study juvenile psychology and business at Harvard University.

Suggs, also a Patrick Henry graduate, will study materials engineering at Virginia Tech. She is the daughter of Mary Claire Rankin Suggs.

Christy Ella Fons, Sheri Lee Stephens and Hoa Thanh Mai each received $500 scholarships. Fons and Stephens are Lord Botetourt High School graduates and will attend Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University respectively. Mai, a William Fleming High School graduate, plans to attend the University of Virginia.
