SEAMAN DENNIS T. BARBOUR, son of Dennis T. and Sharon H. Barbour of Roanoke, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Barbour is a 1994 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

AIR FORCE SENIOR AIRMAN BRIAN J. SELLERS, son of Duane E. and Beverly A. Sellers of Roanoke, has been named air terminal specialist of the year. He is a member os the 436th Aerial Port Squadron at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

Sellers is a 1982 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a 1985 graduate of Virginia Western Community College.

ROGER L. ISRAEL, son of Delphine Hostetter of Roanoke, has been named an honor graduate of the 54B10 Chemical Operations Course by the 1036th U.S. Army Reserve School at Fort Dix, N.J. He is a member of the 229th Chemical Company, Virginia Army National Guard.

HOSPITALMAN APPRENTICE DARRICK A. KASEY, son of Clyde W. Kasey of Roanoke, recently graduated from the Basic Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Ill.

Kasey is a 1990 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

STAFF SGT. MICHAEL J. SCALES, son of Arlene S. Jones of Roanoke, has earned an associate degree in applied science through the Community College of the Air Force.

Scales is a 1989 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

SEAMAN RECRUIT GEORGE WRIGHT, son of George Wright Jr. of Roanoke, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

PVT. JAMES T. DEANS has been chosen as the Soldier of the Quarter for the second quarter of the training year 1996 for the 229th Chemical Company of the Virginia Army National Guard in Roanoke.

Deans joined the National Guard in March 1995.

DEON J. ROYER, son of Vickie Royer, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. He is stationed in Virginia Beach. Royer is a 1995 graduate of William Fleming High School.

KENNETH E. MANUEL, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Ural Manuel of Botetourt County, has received a Peer Recognition Award and a Superior Performance Award for his work on the B-2 Stealth Bomber Simulator at Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Mo.

Manuel is employed by Hughes Training Incorporated.

Manuel is a 1973 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

AIRMAN BRANDON P. SPRADLIN, son of Harold Spradlin of Christiansburg and Debbie E. Ward of Salem, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Spradlin is a 1995 graduate of Christiansburg High School.

SEAMAN APPRENTICE NICOLE A. ULRICH, daughter of Kathleen L. and Harry L. Ulrich Jr. of Troutville, recently graduated from recruit training and was promoted to her current rank.

Ulrich, a 1989 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, joined the Coast Guard in January.

LANCE CPL. ROBERT S. CARTER and SGT. TIMOTHY F. PHILLIPS recently graduated from Marine Security Guard School at Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico.

Carter, son of John W. Carter of Salem and Jean M. Carter of Roanoke, joined the Marine Corps in December 1993. He is a 1993 graduate of Blacksburg High School.

Phillips, son of Roger M. and Paulette D. Phillips of Vinton, joined the Marine Corps in January 1990. He is a 1989 graduate of Staunton River High School.

PFC. THOMAS M. ROBERTS, son of Peggy S. and Thomas M. Roberts Jr. of Roanoke, recently reported for duty with Eighth Communications Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Roberts, a 1995 graduate of Cave Spring High School, joined the Marine Corps last August.

PETTY OFFICER SECOND CLASS DONALD J. MEYER, son of Eugene and Lenore Meyer of Roanoke, is serving aboard the USS George Washington out of Norfolk.

Meyer graduated from William Fleming High School in 1982, Virginia Western Community College in 1984 and Roanoke College in 1987.

He has been in the Navy for eight years.

SGT. ELISABETH M. DuBARRY of Salem has been chosen as the Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter for the second quarter of the training year 1996 for the 229th Chemical Company of the Virginia Army National Guard in Roanoke.

DuBarry joined the National Guard in December 1987.
