BECKER, Ruth Fowler, 93, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, June 12, 1996, in a local nursing center. She was a native of Greenville, Texas, and had been a Roanoke resident for the past 50 years. She was a member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Becker Sr.; and son, George J. Becker Jr. Survivors include son, Charles Becker, and his wife, Helen, Roanoke; a daughter, Ruth E. Becker, Roanoke; grandchildren, Clifford and Douglas Becker, Barbara Crouch; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Eydia Allison, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 14, 1996, at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. Tom Stocks officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. CLEMMER, Jameson Harold, (""Ted""), 77, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, June 11, 1996. Mr. Clemmer was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during World War II with the 29th Division. Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer Clemmer, Roanoke; his son, Harold Clemmer, Roanoke; his brothers and sisters, Robert E. Clemmer, Troutville, John L. Clemmer, Clara Carter and Myrtle Rife, all of Roanoke, Mildred Mitchell, Rocky Mount; his granddaughter, Kristen Clemmer; his good friend , Dorothy Draper. A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, 1996, with the Rev. Robert W. Lanier officiating, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. FLORA, Miriam Ferrell, 82, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 9, 1996. She was the widow of C. Cecil Flora. Mrs. Flora taught school at William Fleming High School and The Eaton School. She was a founding member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church and the Monday Morning Prayer Group. She was a board member of Damascus Ministries and was active in Precept Ministries Bible Study as well as a strong advocate of prayer which she continued until her death. She was also a friend of the West End Center for Youth, The Presbyterian Community Center and Campus Crusade for Christ. Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Harris; a cousin, Margaret Ferrell; four children, Charles C. Flora, Jr., Blair Wood, Beth Smith and Ellen Genovese, all of Roanoke; eleven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 15, 1996, 3:00 p.m., at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church with the Reverend J. Harris Stephens officiating. Mrs. Flora wished that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Mission Fund, Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, 1837 Grandin Road S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24015.

Born in Abbs Valley in Tazewell Co., Va., she was the daughter of the late Rufus Crockett and Hazel Morrissette Harrison. Surviving are her husband, James Everett Link; three so ns and daughters-in-aw, Henry P. and Charlene Bowman of Ohio, Adrian E. and Janet G. Link of Blacksburg, Tommy and Janet A. Link of Naples, Fla.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 1996 in the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke with the Rev. MAXEY, Esther Anna Fox, departed this life on Wednesday, June 12, 1996, at her home at 830 Moran Avenue, Salem. She was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Maxey was the daughter of the late F. Ralph and Marie Southers Fox of McKeesport, Pa. She is survived by her husband, Dr. W. Melvin Maxey; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Michael Mullens; one granddaughter, Ashley, and one grandson, Christopher. She also is survived by her dear friend and sister-in-law, Elsie Fox; one niece, Nancy F. Miller, and four nephews, Frank, David, Ralph and Tim Fox. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles E. Fox, and a sister, Frances M. Bacon. Before her marriage, Mrs. Maxey was Director of Christian Education in Harrisonburg, Va.; Silver Spring, Md., and Fairfax, Va., covering a period of about 12 years. She taught at Ferrum College for about 15 years, and was Associate Professor of Psychology. She was made Professor Emerta upon her retirement. Mrs. Maxey was from a Quaker background, the Hicksite Movement, which greatly influenced her sense of God's presence in her life. She was married in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Callaway. In the absence of the Rev. Bob Co penhaver, the Rev. Harmon Smith will conduct a memorial service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14. A reception in the Parish Hall will follow the service. A Requiem Folk Mass, conducted by the Rev. Harmon Smith, is planned for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ferrum College, Ferrum, Va. 24088, or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 42 East Main Street, Salem, Va. 24153. The family of Esther F. McCOY, Mayme Katherine, 70, of 108 5th St., Pulaski, died Tuesday, June 11, 1996, at her home. Born March 8, 1926 in McCoy, Va., she was the daughter of the late Irvin A. McCoy and Margie Dillon McCoy. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Josephine McCoy. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William E. McCoy and Blanche McCoy, Huntington, W.Va. Ms. McCoy taught school in Pulaski County for eighteen years, retiring due to disability. She was active in civic affairs, was vice president of Pulaski County Womans Democratic Association, a diligent worker in national, state and local elections, and also for charities. She was a charter member of New River Valley Historical Society, member of the National., State and County Retired Teachers Association, guidance counselor and Senior Class Sponsor for many years at Pulaski High School., co-founder of Washington, D.C. Toures for Seniors, co-founder and director of Youth Government Day in which Seniors were trained, elected, and appointed to hold town and county offices. She was popular in social affairs, and also a pianist for weddings and parties. She was the recipient of the 1964 teachers medal from the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge, citing her for her excellence as a teacher of God, country, good citizenship and the fundamental beliefs of our U. S. Constitution and our democratic way of life. She received statewide acclaim for this highly organized activity. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. from Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. Norman E. Witthuhn officiating. Burial will follow Friday at 11 a.m. in Centennial Christian Church Cemetery, McCoy, Va. Visiting will be anytime Thursday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. funeral time at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home.

MORRILL, Diane Marie, 55, of Blacksburg, died Monday, June 10, 1996, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She leaves her husband of 36 years, Robert; daughters, Lee Ann Slack of Worcester, Mass. and Mary Beth Morrill of Richmond; sons, John and Jeff of Arlington; and grandchildren, Thomas and Jaclyn Slack. MORRIS, Raymond L., 99, of Arlington, died Tuesday, June 11, 1996. He was the founder of the Arlington Funeral Home in 1956. He had been a funeral director since 1919, attending the Renouard School for Embalmers. He owned the Morris Funeral Home in Marion, selling it in 1943. In 1977, the VFDA presented him a plaque for 58 years service. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for over 60 years, was a World War I veteran, a charter member of the Unknown Soldiers Post #44. He was a Deacon Emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Clarendon, a golf enthusiast, a member of the Arlington Senior Citizens Golf Group, the first Commander of the Arlington Commandery, member of the Cherrydale Masonic Lodge #42. He was the husband of the late Maude Morris; father of Etta Fisher, Mac Morris, William Morris, Ann Morris, Elsie Payne, and James Morris. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 15, 1996, at Arlington Funeral Home. He was a fashion designer in New York until his illness, where he was head of the denim division for The Gap. Surviving are his father and mother, Joel R. and Loretta H. She was born February 12, 1914 in McDowell County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Otho Tucker Cundiff and Sallie Bob Cottrell Cundiff. She was the widow of Horace Walker Wooldrige Sr. and a lifelong member of Bedford Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Tucker Wooldrige; a sister, Ruth Cundiff Phillips; and a granddaughter, Ami Lynn Wooldrige. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Horace W. Wooldrige Jr. and June Wilson Wooldrige and Lewis E. Wooldrige and Becky Puckett Wooldrige all of Bedford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy W. Compton and James E. Compton Jr. of Bedford, Donna W. Berry of Madison Heights and Debra Jean Webb and Robert W. Webb of Hillsville; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
