LACROIX WINS PLAYOFF, TITLE IN JUNIOR GOLF

Brandon LaCroix of Roanoke won a one-hole playoff to claim the boys' 15- to 16-year-old title Friday at the North State Junior Championship golf tournament in Raleigh, N.C.

LaCroix, 16, parred the 430-yard, 4-par No.1 hole to beat William McGirt of Felton, N.C. Both players finished with two-day, 3-under 141 totals on the Hedingham Country Club course, with LaCroix shooting 70-71 and McGirt carding 75-66.

The 141 was the lowest score in the 200-player field that included players age 15-18.

In other sports in the region:

* Jeff Agnew of Floyd, the New River Valley Speedway points leader, will be looking to get back on the right track tonight in the Shelor 200.

Agnew who recorded his last victory May 4, is anxious to return to the winner's circle. ``We've had our share of bad luck lately,'' said Agnew, who is third in the Late Model Stock points standings. ``I'd like to see that luck change a little in our direction.'' .

It will be fan appreciation night and Scout night at the Radford track. Admission is free for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts wearing their uniform or presenting their membership card.

Along with the 100-lap Late Model Stock race, there will be a 35-lap Limited race, 25-lap Pure Stock, 25-lap Mini Stock and 25-lap Mini Cup car race. The gates open at 1:30 p.m., practice starts at 3:30 and the first green flag drops at 8 p.m.

* Chip Sullivan finished second at the 18-hole Cypress Point Golf Club Pro Invitational in Virginia Beach. Sullivan, the pro at Hanging Rock in Salem, shot a 4-under-par 68 to finish three shots behind Brian Sullivan (no relation).
